We as a family of five had a private guide with driver and it made life much easier and the experience much more relaxed, we worked at our own speed and felt we were more "immersed" in the experience. I would give you her email but my last email to her was bounced back......hope you are OK Bitsy !!

I'm not normally one for private guides and I certainly wouldn't go for a "guided tour" in Istanbul, but if you are the type easily bothered by constant touts begging you to look at their carpets, (and I know many people are bothered by this), then I'd think a private guide is the best solution to avoid them.

Hello, I do recommend a tourguide. We had a guide for 2 days before a med cruise and enjoyed it very much. I can highly recommend Mehmet Ozbalci at www.turfantastik.com
He was recommended to us here on this board. He picked us up at the airport and dropped us at the ship. He arranged our hotel and a cruise on the Bosphorus (sp.) We were pleased with ever aspect of his services. Having a private guide is much different to me than a "guided tour".
Have a wonderful trip.
