Priorat or Rioja

We have 2 nights to spend in December. Should it be Rioja or Priorat? I know there will be limitations due to the time of year, but I have found some good wineries in Rioja that will be open and that will schedule a visit. I have not yet checked Priorat.

If we do Rioja, we would drive from Madrid and then most likely take the train to Barcelona ( from Logrona?). If we do the Priorat, we would most likely drive down from Barcelona.

It's Priorat an easier trip, given my itinerary? We are flying ton Madrid and out of Barcelona. The bulk of our time will be Girona, Barcelona and day trips out of Barcelona, but I thought we could hit the Rioja before we head to Barcelona.

I welcome input.

Thanks in advance!

There is a public holiday at the beginning of December and obviously on Christmas day too. In BCN the 26th is a public holiday too, but not in Rioja.
Weather could be against you or the short daylight hours if you do not like driving in the dark.
Here are the websites covering each wine area:

http://www.turismepriorat.org/en/what-to-do/wine-route
On these pages I cannot see where it says every bodega needs a reservation, but opening hours are limited just like everywhere in Spain! Some will be closed in December.

Hello! Did decide Rioja or priorat? Similar question myself

As ribeirasacra mentioned, wine touring in December is difficult at best; short daylight hours, few bodegas open to the public and of course, public holidays. Also, fewer hotels will be open during this period, so you have to check ahead to see what will be available. Finding a restaurant in the wine producing areas will also be a problem.

You can do a long day-trip from Barcelona (if you leave early enough) and have a tour set up. Reservations are required in the Priorat and transportation a necessity.
