Prints from Digital Pics
 

Anyone have a suggestion for posting and getting prints made from digital camera pics. New to this and would appreciate any advice. Would love to put pics up so friends and family can view, also, any sites that offer prints with good quality and good price. Thanks.

You can usually take the card from the camera to Walmart and use one of their photo machines. We used ofoto.com, which is run by Kodak, to upload our pics to albums for friends to view. They also have a service that will enlarge and frame pictures, which we found very reasonable.

Buying a digital photo printer is getting cheaper all the time if you prefer to do everything at home. But for volume, I would take them somewhere.

There are other websites such as snapfish that do the same thing as ofoto.com

For printing I use Costco.You can upload your shots to their website , and order photos to be picked up in the store the next day,or they can send them to you in the mail.It cost 17 cents for standard size photos,and they can do enlargments up to poster size.

For sharing I use Worldisround.com 50MB storage for free.

I use shutterfly.com for prints, and you can also set up shareable albums, so that others can look at your photos or order prints. Also, I've heard good things about snapfish.

most of these services (shutterfly for sure, and the others too, I imagine) will let you print your pictures with captions in a spiral bound snap book, or make calendars or cards.

You can sign up for a free Yahoo account and get free unlimited storage in addition to an email account

I've browsed other people's pictures on Webshots... but I don't know how the services are.

We've found it very easy to print photos from our HP Deskjet 6540. It has a dedicated photo paper feed that doesn't have conniptions or jam up ( regular problems with our previous printer) and does a good job, quality wise. It's not an expensive printer and in the long run, may be more cost effective than regular runs to the store. The ink cartridges aren't cheap, however.
FYI, a photo mag, I forget which one, had an interesting article about how hard it is for the red colors to last on digital printouts. The tests showed they faded a lot faster than reds on photos printed from film. I forget the technical reasons why.

I always use kodakgallery.com. You just upload your photos to them, they make pictures and mail them to you. I think it is like 24 cents per picture. I never remember to put mine on a disk, bring them to K-Mart or wherever. kodakgallery is really fast too!

I've used Sony's Imagestation.com. Very easy to use and upload/organize photos into albums to share with others. Print quality is good too.

I've been happy with Shutterfly. Just make sure if you do your own photo editing to turn off their editing features.

Before SHutterfly I used the service owned by Kodak (I forget the name now) and was very unhappy with them. Colors and exposure looked nothing like my screen (and I've calibrated my screen.)

I use Sam's Club. The stores with one-hour photo departments have a machine right there where you can get prints.

Or, on their website, you can upload your photos and order prints for as little as 11 cents a copy (4x6.) You can either have them mailed to you, or sent to the nearest Sam's Club and you don't have to pay postage.

Sorry to hijack this thread but this will be our first Europan trip with a digital camera. What is the simplest way to put photos on the net for people at home to see whilst we are travelling? We won't have a laptop with us, have previously used large internet cafes to converse with home but can you stick memory cards in that situation or not?

I agree that the Kodak on line service is incredibly fast. I ordered on line, had prints sent to myself and some to a family member, they arrived within 2 days to each of us.

jsmith, thanks for the Consumer Reports heads-up. I suscribe online and will check it out right now. Again, I don't know how I survived Pre-Fodors.

Just rememeber to take a photo at a higher quality resoution/setting if you are planing on making enlargements.

you can also upload your photos to Walmart.com and they will be ready for pickup at your closest store in 1 hour for .19/ea or they will mail them to you for .12/each.

I downloaded my pictures to snapfish.com. They go to an album and then can be shared. After that I ordered 80 prints, with boarders. It came to around 20 dollars encluding some enlargements. I was very pleased with the prints. I am now making a photo book for my husband, looks neat but haven't gotten that back yet.

The did a fabulous job enlarging a digital image 20 16x20 for only 12.75
