Printing Out Entire Thread
 

There's a lovely thread called "Were You In Europe on 9/11?" that I'd like to print out. Is there an easy way to print an entire thread without getting all the frames and stuff? I've tried copying and pasting into WORD, but the frames are still there.

Also, on another note, I'd love to see the thread continued and with more input from those who were traveling in other regions at the time. The responses are so sincere and fascinating; book-quality in my opinion.

Open the thread, click on the text, right-click, print.

Good question Roundtrip - I would like to be able to do this or (more importantly for me) copy it. I tried Faina's suggestion but it still printed out all the frames, ads, etc.

Thank you for the right-click tip. I tried it, but the printouts show the annoying Hertz ads on the side, too. Oh, well. I'll settle for copying and pasting.

I highlight the entire section I want to print, ignoring the side frames and ads. Then to to "file", click print, and then click "print selection". Otherwise I get all that other garbage.

Highlight the text you wish to print.
(to do this press the left mouse key and run the mouse/cursor over the text)
Once all the text is highlighted press Ctrl C .
Open up a new 'microsoft word' page click the mouse/cursor at the top of the page the press Ctrl V This will paste the text on to the word page.

Thanks Patrick and Mucky - I think the issue which Roundtrip has and I have is it copies or print annoying frames to word which makes a seamless printing impossible. There seems to be no way of getting rid of these frames.

Left click the center taxt. Then do a right click, "select all," "copy," then open wordpad, then "paste."

You get only the center text. You can erase the irrelevant stuff between messages, give it your own title, and save it with any name you want. I also copy the thread URL and paste it at the top of my wordpad txt file.

Print at your convenience. I usually wait a few days before printing because there is always a late entry that is worth keeping.

Ooopssss... yeah, it's printing the commercials, I apologize.

Hmmm.... is there a way to e-mail the thread to yourself, and print the text out of your e-mail?

To get the text only, select all the text, copy it then paste it into Notepad.

Then copy it from Notepad into Word / e-mail & reformat it as you want

I don't think that email function really emails threads, it just emails you the URL. I don't use it for that reason, as if the URL disappears, you don't have a copy of the post.

It doesn't bother me to have ads printed with the info, but what Patrick says works. I have a PC and WORD and you can just highlight the left side with the words, then copy it to a blank WORD document page and print it and no ads or pictures show up. I just did it and didn't use Notepad and it still worked.

Thank you - seems round about but Word was not allowing erasing of frames - this way it gets around that.

Done all suggested things, including emailing thread to myself, but that's just a link to the actual thread. So far, the best results have been simply to highlight the posts, copy, and paste into WORD, and then resize the frames and/or delete excess frames. I printed double sided and it came to 23 pages. Thanks for all tips!

Maybe I don't understand what you find so annoying about what you are calling frames. It is true that there is a light gray line in between every post, but there are no ads at the side or bottom when you only highlight the left side and copy to a WORD document.

Try selecting all the text then pasting straight into a Word document.

then you'll see the frames - and also note how long it takes to paste

I do the same as many of you, left click, highlight only the posts, right click and click copy then paste to a word document by right clicking then on paste. A little clipboard in a box comes up at the bottom corner, click on this and then "keep text only" and all the lines etc go away.

Maudie - Great find!! How did you ever find that trick??
That clipboard thing (called Paste Options) is on the lower right of my text in Word and by clicking on it, I get a choice of (1) keep source formatiing, (2) match destination formatting or (3)keep text only. Choosing #3 is the answer and saves all that copying to Word Pad.

I'm happy to say that all this discussion of a problem makes no sense to me whatever, because when I cut/paste into Word, I never have any "frame" issue. Of course, I have a Mac (big Smile here).
