Prien am chiemsee
Can anyone tell me much about this town? Is the water warm enough to swim in the summer? Is there a lot of hiking close by?
|
All I recall about it is that it's the docking area for the boat to Herrencheimsee, Ludwig's "other" castle. I'm not sure it has much life in its own right.
|
Prien is not very big but has some nice restaurants. Pretty good shopping. I bought some Birkenstocks super cheap last year.

Janet,

There are a number of hiking paths near Prien am Chiemsee. I believe one goes along a good part of the lake.

A boat trip out to Herrenchiemsee and Fraueninsel will give you ample opportunity to hike.

There are all kinds of restaurants near the lake and in town.

I studied there one summer, but I don't really remember any people swimming in the lake. I know none of my fellow students went swimming in the lake.

Germans swim there in the summer, but for this Texas, the water is way too cold!
|
Make that 'Texan'.

Yes, there are some public swimming sites & the water is cool, but not too bad. Hope you don't mind being around those who don't wear tops.
