Prices For London Taxis?

Lots of posts here for prices from the various airports into town, but couldn't find info for within London itself. We'll be coming into Victoria Station and want to get to the Millenium London Mayfair hotel in Grosvenor Square. Anybody have any estimates? Viamichelin shows it's only 3 km away, and since the nearest tube station to the hotel is 3-4 blocks, we thought it might be easier to just taxi it.

Thanks!

You might want to take a look at this. Given the time of day and the posibility of congestion prices could be higher for your actual ride.

Thanks, Dukey. It's going to be a Saturday morning at 0830, so I'm guessing it might not be too bad. We're trying to figure out what to do for Tube tickets since we're only there from Saturday morning until late Sunday afternoon. We'll be taking the Tube quite a bit since we have specific things we want to see.

I understand completely as I use the Tube a great deal when in London and, as a result, use Travelcards. But I do also use taxis and on the last trip when taking one on a weekday morning from Covent Garden to Liverpool Street station spent about 45 minutes in congestion.

sardog, just buy a one day travelcard for each day of your stay. You'll be off-peak, so it will only cost £4.90 each per day for unlimited travel in Central London. You can buy these from the automatic ticket macxhines, no photo ID required.

I approve of your idea to take a taxi when you first arrive, as traffic should be okay.

Thanks Kate and Dukey! This is why I've been touting the virtues of Fodors Forum far and wide.

My girlfriend's first 29th birthday, , is a couple of weekends from now and we've been trying to decide on something special to do. Last night we got 50 euro return tickets from Frankfurt to Stanstead, $103 for the hotel on Priceline, and we're going to try for 1/2 price tickets for Blue Man Group. Throw in two museums and a zoo (she goes to zoos everywhere she goes) and it'll be a birthday to remember! Gotta love living in Europe. We spent last weekend camping in Switzerland.
