Priceline hotels - triple room
 

Hello,
I know that reservations with Priceline are for double rooms. However, in the US, we have used it many times for triple rooms, with no problems. We are now going to Germany (Berlin) and would like to know if hotels in Europe usually accept three in a room booked and prepaid with Priceline.

It's very unlikely you will win a bid at a hotel that is OK with triple occupancy, in either case.

Use Hotwire or conventional booking methods.

If the third person in your party is a child, you can get great deals at http://www.accorhotels.com (and maybe even if the third person is not a child).

In Europe, rooms for 2 only have space for two (and sometimes even that is a tigh squeeze :) )

But even if the room is large enough, you can't sleep 3 in a double/twin room. There will only be bed(s) for 2.

Janisj is correct, you cannot risk it. Rooms may simply not have the space for a third person. You may be forced to upgrade at a walk-up rate. According to biddingfortravel.com, travelers have received 3* lodging in the Berlin east zone for as little as %55/nt, perhaps you can try for 2 rooms.

Many hotel rooms in europe are very small (barely bigger than the bed) and there often would be no place to put a third person.

Even if there were the hotel would obviously be free to charge whatever they wanted for the third person. Or - they might simply make you rent another, single, room.

If you need a triple - that's what you have to reserve - or the third person may have no place to sleep.

I can't remember which board I read it on, so I can't find the post to link... However, I recently read a post from a poster who showed up at a Courtyard in Paris with his kids in tow. The hotel was going to charge him MORE then his "bid" was to find space for the kids.

I wouldn't risk it in Europe!

I keep on forgetting stuff, but also check out the Holiday Inn site. Many Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express hotels allow third persons for free or a small charge.

We've done it but you have to be willing to take a hit. So far we have been lucky. When we did it, it was only major cities and 4-5 star hotels. We have two kids and just asked them to add a bed. One of the kids sleeps in our bed. So far, it has worked in Madrid*, Munich and Lisbon.

*Re Madrid: This hotel was fabulous in that with a Priceline rate of $49/night, we had to reschedule due to a burglary. They moved our dates and gave us the priceline rate. Incredible. The hotel was the Tryp Atocha. Great location, great service, mediocre room. Still, it surpassed our expectations.
