Priceline for Vienna?

I am still searching for a inexpensive hotel in Vienna (around $100-110 a night)and I was wondering if anyone has had any luck with Priceline for Vienna? I've heard of some people getting great rates UNDER $100 in places like the Sofitel and Marriott. Occassionally some have got rooms in the Mercure chain. I can only imagine that a 4 or 5 star hotel in Vienna in the city center at any rate under $100 would be a steal! Any experiences???

There are a couple of hits in Vienna listed on the "other Europe" pages at www.biddingfortravel.com - Sofitel at US$65, etc.

Yes I saw that and it also seemd that the Marriott came up a few times. Its a total crap shoot. I figure for $65 and a 4 star hotel how can I go wrong?

Do it, Richard! Report back here and let us know what you got.

I just posted 2 seperate bids for Vienna Hotels. A 5 star for $90 then another for $95. Both rejected. Maybe I am shooting too high....

Richard, is there a record of recent successful bids in Vienna at www.biddingfortravel.com?

Yes Betsy at the Mariott and Sofitel. I may have had better luck if I bid 4 star instead of five but I thought , "what do I have to loose?"

I reserved a room at the HOTEL KAISERIN ELISABETH and they gave me what they called a "large single" with air conditioning for 105 euro ($116).

So heres the deal, Monty. Shall I keep the HOTEL KAISERIN ELISABETH for $116 or shoot for a Priceline bid on a 4 star for $80-100?

The KAISERIN is central and cute but if I get lucky I can end up with a room at a place like the Marriott or another 4 star for $95.

Big decision.

Marriott has just been done up, so rooms are very nice. But good double rooms at KE are better than Marriott for charm (albeit high quality chintz)and very good size. Cheaper double rooms are OK, but Marriott new rooms are better. Bit wary of your good single room offer (good price, but room size?) - so perhaps punt for Priceline. But I think Renaissance is also a possibility which I would definitely not want due to inferior location nor would I want 2 of the 3 Mercures for same reason, so definite risk on bidding on the low side.
