Not as good as London. The Renaissance and the Marriott are the two most awarded properties. The Marriott is near the Museums and the park, the Renaissance is closer to Centraal Station, the Dam, RLD, etc. Both are OK - but not anything special.

I think the Movenpick is the most often awarded 4* property for the City Center/Museum Quarter zone. The drawback is its off to the side location.
As usual, see the best price you can get for an acceptable hotel without Priceline, and then decide what bid price on Priceline would represent a reasonable tradeoff.

We stayed at the Renaissance several years ago (not through Priceline). It was the first time we had ever stayed in an American chain hotel in Europe. Although it's a typical Marriott, we decided it was really nice after a long day of sightseeing to come back to a room that you knew would have great beds and great showers, and where the rooms wouldn't be tiny -- all of which was true with the Renaissance. The location was quite convenient, both for walking and by using public transit.

Thank you all for your posts. We decided to go with priceline because we would be spending new years there and the hotel prices were triple. So what we ended up getting is the Holiday Inn-Amsterdam for $122. Its a darn good price. Its funny because I bid $122 for a four star hotel not thinking it would be accepted at all. But it did. Wished it was in center of town though (which priceline, by the way, claims to be in) but according to posts on Tripadvisor, it is 20-30 mins by train to the center. But we can definitely make do and go with the flo!

SUMMAGOLD, if you bid for City Centre/Museum Quarter only, you should not have received the Holiday Inn.
You must have bid for City Centre South, because that is the zone that Holiday Inn is located in.
