I read recently that there was a site similar to BiddingForTravel or BetterBidding that showed up winning bids on the European version of Priceline.

I can't for the life of me remember what it was called or where I read it.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Hmmm, Dave. I haven't heard of the site you mention, but the Bidding for Travel site does show winning bids for European hotels. Scroll way, way down the first page of the site.

Thanks for replying. I am trying to book US hotels.

My problem is I can't use www.priceline.com because I live in the UK and you need a US postal address. I tend to use Hotwire but I was just wondering what sort of rates people had got bidding on www.priceline.co.uk.

I thought it was somewhere on Fodors that I read this before but I can't find it when I search.

Someone on the US board has helped me out. The site I was thinking of was www.cleverbidding.co.uk

Dave: I'm not sure priceline is any cheaper than Hotwire or other sites like Hotwire. I tried Priceline once for a hotel in New York City, but my bid wasn't accepted. I did go in low because I wasn't all that serious about it. Then priceline gave me an idea of what typical bid would be for that class of hotel. I've done just as well on other sites where you at least know what hotel you're pricing out and where it is. I guess I just really don't like the surprise element to Priceline. Good luck to you.

Savannah, the www.biddingfortravel.com site takes the surprise element out of Priceline. There's a list of hotels that PL uses in each city, so you know which hotel you are likely to get. Also, people who have bid successfully post their bids on the site, which is a clue to constructing your own bid. BFT advises you to blast on past that screen where PL posts typical bids; it's WAY high. Finally, the moderators at BFT will help you construct your bid if you ask. By the way, I don't work for PL or BFT.
