Price quote check for Croatia
 

Hi everyone,

Thank you all for your invaluable advice regarding my upcoming trip to Croatia. I was wondering if you could tell me if the following quote which I received from a travel agent seems reasonable for transportation within Croatia:

360 Euro for the following (this covers 2 people):

- transfer from airport in Dubrovnik to hotel
- Bus tickets from Dubrovnik to Split
- Ferry tickets from Split to Hvar
- taxi to Hvar hotel
- taxi from Hvar hotel to ferry
- Ferry tickets from Hvar to Split
- Automatic rental car for 1 day (drive from Split to Dubrovnik, drop off fee included)
- taxi from Dubrovnik hotel to the airport

That has to be more expensive than what you'd pay on your own--because you are paying for convenience.
Bus an ferry tickets are inexpensive and so easy to purchase yourself.
Taxis are more expensive, but you can always negotiate.
Where is your hotel in Hvar? You may not need a taxi.
That is basically 700 dollars for things you can easily do yourself and a one day rental car imo--too much.

Please ignore my drastic exaggeration of the euro-dollar conversion, but I still think that is too much to pay for those services.

Thanks so much - that was my first thought as well. Is it hard to get ferry/bus tickets once there, or can they be purchased ahead of time?

It is not possible or necessary to purchase ferry or bus tickets in advance. (not the ones you'll be taking anyway).
At Dubrovnik bus station, English is widely spoken. If one bus to Split fills up, there will be another within the hour.
For ferry, at Split harbor there are kiosks and a large station where you can buy tickets. In Hvar, there is a ferry office.
Always ask your hotel or host about transfers. For Dubrovnik airport, there is a Croatia Airlines bus--not sure where that goes (either to Old Town gate or the bus station).

I agree with Yorkshire; I think the price you quoted is pretty high and you should be able to save quite a bit of money doing it on your own. There is something to be said about convenience, but really getting around in Croatia is pretty easy.

The Croatia Airlines bus will be ready when your flight lands in Dubrovnik and drops off right outside of Ploce gate. it's fairly inexpensive and super easy. You may need a taxi to get from Dubrovnik to the airport because the but picks up at the main bus station (which is a mile or two outside of city center, near the ferry terminal_, but if I recall correctly the taxi price wasn't anything outrageous.
