Pretty darn good AA fare deal for off-season Europe travel
 

Hi all,

Apparently I have been living under a rock because I didn't know about this deal on American Airlines. I knew that from Oct. 15-May 15 (non-peak season) you could use 40,000 FF miles to get a free r/t ticket to Europe. But what I didn't know is that if you have 20,000 you can fly for $295 (plus tax - came to $352) and if you have 30,000 you can fly for $195 (plus tax). The hubby and I are planning to take advantage of this in November on the DFW-CDG route. When I asked the agent if this applied to other European routes, she said yes, except that all the legs of the flights have to be on American (no British Airways, etc.) So, I hope this will be of help to someone looking for a deal this fall or beyond.

Darn, all my miles are with Continental.

Just remember - these tickets DO NOT ear miles.

The mileage/co-pay has been around for some time now. It is also true for domestic, Hawaii, Caribbean, Japan, South America travel.

Forgot to mention that you have to book this over the phone apparently. If anyone finds this info on the www.aa.com website, please post a link. My friend found out about it by calling and asking what she could do since she only had 25,000 miles but wanted to come with us to Paris in November. I'm sure glad she called and asked!

I'm glad that this deal works for you and I could see how this is enticing to anybody that doesn't earn too many miles on a regular basis but personally I don't think it's such a great deal. It is nice to know you locked into a nice fare now, but I predict the European fares during the winter season will be around $500 all in, so basically you are saving about $150 and giving AA 20,000 miles. Then again I could be wrong. Won't be the first time and it won't be the last.

I have to agree with AAFF. While it could be a deal in early May, it seems like potentially a big waste of miles for November-March.

I'd equate it to spending $700. Not a bargain for much of the time during those months.
