Prescription question
 

This is probably a subject for older travelers. I am a senior who takes several medications. I have read that it is best to keep your medications in their original containers. I did this on my first and second trips to Europe, and my bags were never checked. It would save so much space if I could put all my medications in one plastic container, as the original containers are always much larger than the pills inside. I need all the space I can get. Is there really any chance my bags will be searched? I'm going to the British Isles, not exactly a hot bed of drug trafficking. What experiences have other older travelers had?

We have been to Britain many times and always carry our pills in the plastic containers that hold up to a month, each day's supply, separately...no problem, no one asked or inspected our bags.

Diane, <BR>I have taken my med's in a day to day dispensor, and even in a ziplock bag, but I also take the receipt from the pharmacy for each prescription. I save space, but also am protected if I am questioned about the med's.

Diane, aside from the paranoia about being taken for a smuggler, the reason for carrying meds the bottle in which originally dispensed is to have all the info about what you are taking, in case of medical emergency (heaven forfend, but they DO happen!) or refill needed. Brand names are often different in Europe than in the US. You can accomplish the same by having your doctor(s) write a new script for each med and carry those (or a copy) with you. In any case, DO carry your meds with you, NOT in checked baggage. The issue here is that bags can get sent to the wrong place or be delayed, and you'd be without your meds. <BR>Happy traveling - and remember to talk with your nurse or pharmacist about how to accommodate the change in time zones for your routine meds!
