Can any one recommend good places in Paris that have prepared foods to take out?

Thanks,

Many of the food shops along Rue Cler have take out food. Marks & Spencer had a good food section too (but I believe M&S is closing all their French stores).
I guess it depends on what kind of food you are looking for - sandwiches, full meals, pastries, etc.

The rue Cler is a great place for prepared foods. So is the rue Buci. And there's always Fochon. The department stores have good "food halls" too. But wherever you are in Paris, you won't be far from some delicious treat in a store window calling out to be bought and devoured.

If you are talking about "to-go" (a emporter), then you've got the usual suspects like pizza shops, sandwich shops, fast-food restaurants, Chinese restaurants, etc.

If you mean whole meals, then the department stores like Galeries Lafayette are your best bet.

Many butchers who sell chickens have a slow roaster/spit on which they cook chickens for purchase; in some of the food markets (like d'Aligre) there are stands that sell cooked meat pies, chickens, etc. There are trattories, which are sort of like delis - prepared salads, meat pies, sandwiches, all can be bought to-go.

I think the Flo group of restaurants will prepare to-go meals (real food) and may even deliver.

My favorite Paris topic! The reason I always stay near Rue du Buci is the take-away food shops. The French are just the best at displaying prepared foods in shop windows. And the variety is incredible,a whole book could be written.Cheese shops, bakeries, seafood, roasted chickens and a supermarket as well.Buy some paper plates ,a bottle of wine then go back to your room and watch "The Simpsons" in French.

Where is the rue du Buci exactly? I want to stay in an apartment next time we go to Paris, so that we can have a few meals in.

A favorite of mine is the Grande Epicerie at Bon Marche. WOW! Nine thousand square feet of displays of the most wonderful foods and wines. Everything from chocolates and pastries to prepared hot and cold foods, sandwiches and quiche, as well as paper products (for picnics), condiments and wonderful food treasures to take home as gifts. I could spend hours there (and sometimes do!) Bon appetit, Peg

Galleries Lafayette has a great food store in their basement. Also, look for small panini stands, the panini sandwiches are really great. However, our favorite "take-out" is a picnic: 2 baguettes, some good cheese (my favorite brand is Pie D'Angloys), some grapes or other fruit, maybe some ham, and Orangina. All this can be found at any small market or on a market street. Check out Montorgeuil near Les Halles.

Have a great trip!

Rue de Buci is off St.Germaine near Place d'Odeon and Rue de Seine.Closest Metro would be Place D'Odeon, then cross Blvd. St. Germaine towards the river(north). You can do well just pointing to the delicacies, but knowing how to say "100 grams please" can make it work better.Sunday mornings are very active times. If you stick to roast chicken and potatoes it's cheap,go for the foie gras and Norwiegan salmon bring lots of francs.

There are lots of places if you are near a market street, it really depends where you are staying as I wouldn't go way across town for food. You can always find prepared foods at the typical food market streets, I only know ones on Left Bank (Cler, Buci and Mouffetard). Not quite the same, but a street with lots of good food stores near where I had an apt one summer is rue St Charles running south of the metro stop--there were a couple boulangeries, fromageries, patisseries and general small delis. A chain of upscale gourmet delis is the Flo Prestige shops (www.floprestige.fr), they are all over Paris, one on rue de Rennes near the street leading to place St-Sulpice. There are usually very good selections of prepared foods in the larger Monoprix stores which have groceries, also; there is tons of good food (grocery and takeout) in the Inno store just southeast of tour Montparnasse (I think Monoprix owns them). www.monoprix.fr has store listings and describes their food depts (charcuterie, fromagerie, poissonnerie, etc). Rue de Buci is the most expensive area, I think, I wouldn't go there unless you happen to be in the neighborhood.

Well, I'm ready to go! Too bad my pocketbook needs time to catch up!

When I was a young girl, about 10 years old, my mother rented a small house in the south of france for a month or so. We practically lived on roast chickens which I rode my bicycle to pick up from the village shop. I kept asking for coq au vin because that was the only expression I knew for french chicken. Finally, the shop lady taught me to ask for "un poulet, s'ils vous plait!" Thank God, or we'd have starved!

Yikes! I just re-read my post and realized I spelled Fauchon " Fochon." Heavens! The air in the Dordogne must be getting to me. Or maybe it's the Pecharmant!Or watching my first episode of "Loft Story."

Although they pretend to hate it, I saw plenty of Parisians walking out of McDonald's with food!
Honestly, you will walk down the street and see plenty of take-away options.
On one of several blocks in the 5th, 6th, or 7th, first hit the Boulangerie for some bread, the Charcuterie for meat, the wine shop and then the Patisserie for desert!
Also, the corner crepe stands are a great choice for a snack.

In the 16th, there are also wonderful takeout places, especially around the Michel-Ange Auteuil area, the Avenue Mozart near the Jasmin metro stop, and the rue de la Pompe.
Fauchon's is very good; so is the LeNotre chain of upscale "traiteurs." Also, many small Asian restaurants have absolutely delicious takeaway dishes--I like French-Asian cuisine MUCH better than U.S.-Asian cooking!
There are some really good places on the rue de Buci, as others have said. We think the Rose de Tunis, on the rue St. Andre des Arts near the Place St. Michel, has the best takeout French fries in Paris.

Thanks, everyone, for the helpful replies! The Rue de Buci sounds wonderful. We'll be staying in the 16e, so it's also great to have some names of places in that area.
Are there any Asian restaurants that do take-out food that are especially recommended?

Best,
Suzy

Suzy: The 6th (Rue de Buci) is quite a long way from the 16th where you are staying. Streets with a lot of shops in that area are Rue de Passy (I think there is also a Carrefour=cheap for everything) where you can take out food. Also, Avenue Victor-Hugo has some bakeries and traiteurs. However, the 16th is a *very* upscale arrondissement. Do compare prices before you buy. Everywhere in Paris, you will find very small grocery stores that are open late at night. They are usually run by "djerbiens" people from Djerba Island, Tunisia. it's incredible what you can buy in these tiny stores.

Where in the 16th will you be staying? Depending on your hotel, you may find the Michel-Ange Auteuil area just as close as Passy. There is a wonderful food market by the Michel-Ange Auteuil metro stop on Wednesday and Saturday mornings. I like it better than the rue Cler to be honest, it's much less touristy and no more expensive than the places on the rues Cler, Buci or Mouffetard. There also is a LeNotre right by there on the rue d'Auteuil; also a very nice Asian takeout on the same block. There are several Asian takeout places on the Avenue Mozart near the Jasmin metro stop. Some great food shops there, too. The Royal Mozart is a nice cafe, serves good light meals, excellent coffee, the cafe dog's name is Snoopy, FYI (a miniature poodle). The prices in that area are reasonable but are higher along the Ave. Victor Hugo. Sorry, I'm not that familiar with the Passy food shops.

There's also a great market along the Rue Montorguiel (in the 1st and 2nd arrondissements), which seems to not be mentioned very often.
