PREMS train offer????from munich to paris
 

I got some replies on the cheapest way to travel from munich to paris and turned out to be a prems offer...
I couldnt reach that or get any information on it...
can someone please help me???

Go to www.bahn.de and go to the English schedule page and put in Munich and Paris and along with the schedules the price should pop up and if there is a SPAR (or some such wording) it will then give the discount fare if available.

Look for PREMS fares.

Ira's site may yield better pricing - i checked the bahn.de site and there were only tickets in the range of 120 euros - so French rail site Ira referenced may be better.
Ira or others - what does PREMs mean - premium i think though these are discounted fares?

PREMS are the cheapest fares offered by SNCF. No refunds, no exchanges.

If you don't buy the insurance, you can print your own ticket, as well.

After following Ira's valuable instructions i can only find a 115 euro 2nd class fare - same about as 120 euro fare on bahn.de site - apparently no PREMS available (Ira or others please correct me and point out my failure if there is any as i wish to learn as much about these fares as possible0
So at 115 euro this would be about $160 - if you are doing any other train travel in either country you should consider also the Germany-France pass, which starts with 4 days of travel in a two month period costs $230 - so if you can use $70 worth of travel in other three days look at this pass (sold only in US thru RailEurope - as always i recommend either BETS (800-441-2387) or Rick Steves (www.ricksteves.com0 for their expertise in passes - they are both Raileurope agents but provide expert service that you often don't get from talking to RE, which also charges a $25 fee i think to talk to someone.
But maybe someone can point up a PREM fare i'm missing!

I just put a date at random in august and got only full fare (€114,70) on day trains BUT Prem's on the night train from €50 for 2nd cls and from €70 for 1st cls.

2nd cls Prem's has 4 choices including normal 2nd cls seats (50€), couchette (€60) the most expensive T3 with shower (€146).

I didn't know that SNCF offered a PREMs fare that (in this case) would involve completing part of the trip on another (country's) railroad.

Am I incorrect about that?

In this particular case I have also advocated at least looking into the possibility of a budget flight but I assume the OP has decided not to do so (for what I am sure are excellent reasons).

can u please tell me, if i am travelling on friday 18/8/2006 around 20:00 (or in the evening generally) from munich to paris.
and would like to depart paris to arrive back at munich on sunday 22:00 (evening too)

what would be the fare???
will it be also 50 euros 2nd cls???

Dukey, yes, surprising isn't it? On prem's destionation list, Munich is listed between Mulhouse and Nancy. I used www.voyagesncf.com as I always do to buy Prem's tickets and not www.banh.de.

Donna, €60 2nd cls seat (not couchette not sleeper) on 18 AUG (it says last seats so better hurry) and ....

No ISIC cards give no discounts i know of on trains in Europe, but being under 26 at times may.

PAR/MUC you want a day train arrving MUC in the evening right ? Day trains are all normal rate €114,70. But the night train is again cheap €75 2nd cls and 70 for 1st, leaving Paris 22h45 and arriving MUC at 08.58.

Even a day train is 8hrs. That woulkd be exhausting to do just for a weekend. I hope you are young enough for that ;)

I'll add to Kappa's comments. The night train from Munich to Paris is a good way to go, especially since PREM'S tickets are available at sncf.com and you save the cost of a night in a hotel and have more daylight hours for sightseeing. Online booking is available up to 90 days in advance. That is a very popular train so it's best to book as soon as the 90-day window opens to have a chance of getting PREM'S. However, there currently is a problem with printing tickets for that route. I wrote to SNCF this morning and I'll report back when I get an answer.

For a daytime route, you can travel from Munich to Strasbourg on a bahn.de Europa-Spezial fare for as little as E29 and then from Strasbourg to Paris for as little as E20 on a sncf.com PREM'S fare. So long as you do NOT choose cancellation insurance there will be no problem printing that ticket.

Yes, it is correct 1st cls Prem' is cheaper right now. Besides for €75, you can get only a normal seat BUT for €70 is 1st cls."couchette".

This happnes with Prem's. For example I had choice of 2nd cls (€50 expensive for Prem's) and 1st cls (€50). Naturally I bought 1st cls for the same price and leaving for Paris tomorrow morning.
