Pre-Trip Excitement

Leaving tomorrow for London/Paris trip for first time. Can't seem to focus on anything today. I'm so excited I just want it to be time to go. How can I deal with this excitement. Don't remember feeling this way since I was a small child at Christmas.

Be prepared; this will be the first of many!! Have fun!

I'm thrilled for you. Isn't anticipation great? J.

I am green with envy, for me this is the best part of the trip when all of your hard work and planning are beginning to bear fruit.

London and Paris will be absolutely fabulous this time of year, I hope you have a wonderful time and look forward to hearing about the adventures on the flip side!

WatersonFamily Jun 10th, 2003 10:18 AM

To be honest, I am not enjoying this anticipation. Thanks to all of you, I feel quite prepared for anything and I AM READY TO GO! How do you cope with this feeling?

FainaAgain Jun 10th, 2003 10:21 AM

How can you deal with excitement? Enjoy the anticipation!

PCircles Jun 10th, 2003 10:23 AM

If you don't have to be at work - shop shop shop for new clothes to wear in the UK and France.

That's what I do!

Scottee25 Jun 10th, 2003 10:27 AM

Waterson,

Best way to cope with that feeling? In my opinion: beer... lots and lots of beer.

WatersonFamily Jun 10th, 2003 10:31 AM

Thanks guys, but I am at work and beer isn't an option. All I can think about is going...can't focus on anything else.
AAARGH!

I am also one of those people who doesn't like waiting! Work seems to go on and on, and every day you want it to be the last day of work so you can get going! I try to distract myself from dwelling on all the waiting by shopping, going out for dinner etc. etc.

Enjoy the excitement now because after you get back you will have the post-trip blues with are terrible!!
Only thing that cures those is planning the next trip!

irishdame Jun 10th, 2003 10:55 AM

"post trip blues with are terrible"
Should have been WHICH are terrible. Sorry!!

WatersonFamily Jun 10th, 2003 11:06 AM

Planning the next trip...sounds like a great idea. We're thinking about Greece/Egypt in November 2004.

faile626 Jun 10th, 2003 11:25 AM

How funny - I'm at work, too, but all I can think about is how in 2 days, 16 hours, 59 minutes and 43 seconds I'll be taking off for Scotland. AND my boss it out today, which always makes it harder to focus....yeah. So I'm mostly scrolling through Fodors.

janeg Jun 10th, 2003 11:40 AM

Well, I sympathize! What you have is not anticipation, it is anxiety. And it is uncomfortable and very disconcerting. Deep breathing? Planning the next trip? At least you only have 1 day to go. I have 5. How about unpacking and repacking with only half the stuff? Or you could wash & wax the kitchen floor.
Hope you feel better.

baemel Jun 10th, 2003 12:18 PM

yes, enjoy it because now I am experiencing the post-trip blues and let me tell you ,....they bite! With nothing to research anymore I am wandering this forum in a daze w/o purpose. Or maybe it's the jetlag...?!

Well, have an amazing time!

donnabee Jun 10th, 2003 12:23 PM

Get a hotel room at the airport. Go have a nice dinner with some good wine, and by the time dinner is over, it will be time for bed!

rubyroo22 Jun 10th, 2003 12:29 PM

I'm leaving for Italy bright n early too! It's my first time as well....SOOOO EXCITED. I can't wait to get out of this office!!

WatersonFamily Jun 10th, 2003 12:59 PM

Rubyroo22 - I feel like you really share my pain. We leave tomorrow night, but tomorrow will be filled with packing/unpacking/repacking, hair, nails and a final meal at our favorite restaurant before we drop the dog off at the "doggie sitters" and head for the airport. Yahoo!
