Pre-booking Admission to St Peter's and Coliseum

My husband and I (from Australia) will be in Rome for 5 days from August 9th 2010. I would like to book our entry to St Peter's and the Colosseum online before we go on our trip to avoid waiting in ques.

Can anyone recommend a reputable tour site to book these tours and any other sights in Rome that would need to be booked in advance..........taking note that we will only be there for 4 days.

Any advice or recommendations would be much appreciated.

Entry to St Peter's is free and getting the Roma Pass from the Paletine Hill means you can walk straight in to the Colosseum (both together = 1 entry)

No need to book either in advance

If you are talking about St. Peter's Basilica, there is no fee and even though the security lines may be long, they usually move pretty fast.

If you are talking about the Vatican Museums, you can either pre-book an 8am, do-it-yourself tour; or book a guided tour through the Vatican Museum itself or use an outside service. Each of those levels increases the cost.

As to the Colosseum, don't buy your tickets at the Colosseum. The Colosseum/Palatine Hill/Roman Forum are all on the same ticket. You can buy your ticket at any of the entry points for any of the 3 sites. One is about half-way down Via dei Fori Imperiali, about half-way between the Capitoline hill and the Colosseum. The other is about 200 meters down Via San Gregorio, going away from the Colosseum, past the Arch of Constantine. With these tickets you have access to all three sites, one time, within a 48 hour period.

You can also pick up a Roma Pass (which does not include the Vatican Museums). This provides free access to two of it's dozens of listed sites and good discounts into all others, plus it provides for 3 days of unlimited use of the entire Rome public transportation system. It is good for 3 days.

If you are looking for a guide for St. Peter's, I strongly suggest Dr. Christopher Longhurst, who operates Sacra Sorgente Tours. He earned his Doctorate in Sacred Theology at the Pontifical Angelicum, has degrees in Art History, philosophy and law. More important, he is an AMAZING storyteller. Here is his website...

If you want, I also have a website with all kinds of free Rome stuff on it

With the Roma Pass (25€)you don't have to stand in line for tickets. You still have to go through security lines everywhere which usually move pretty fast.
