Prayer for a Safe Journey

May it be Your will, God, that You lead us toward peace, and make us reach our desired destination in life, gladness and peace.

May you rescue us from the hand of every foe, ambush, bandits and evil animals along the way, and from all manner of punishments that assemble to come to earth.

May you send blessing in our every handiwork, and grant us grace, kindness and mercy in Your eyes and in the eyes of all who see us.

May you hear the sound of our supplication because You are God who hears prayers.

Amen! Happy travels, Faina. Looking forward to your report.

elaine May 17th, 2005 12:18 PM

well, I must say, those are loftier sentiments than mine:
'please god don't let the plane crash!'

LoveItaly May 17th, 2005 12:28 PM

A beautiful prayer dear Faina. Thank you for sharing it. May peace be with you when you board your plane for your wonderful visit to Switzerland.

rex May 17th, 2005 12:45 PM

<<well, I must say, those are loftier sentiments than mine:
'please god don't let the plane crash!'>>

I'll get flamed for this - - but I prefer to make my supplications to real flesh and blood people:

"please pilot, don't take me to meet god".

Best wishes,

Rex

Thanks FainaAgain for the safe journey prayer.
Have a safe trip and comeback to tell us all about it.
Ciao,

elaine May 17th, 2005 12:52 PM

actually rex, you were more forthright than I was, I'd be more likely to plead in that direction myself

cd May 17th, 2005 01:05 PM

Rex
I could never flame you for that statement....so true, so true.

uuhhhh May 17th, 2005 02:20 PM

i guess if you post a prayer on a public forum, you shouldn't be surprise by any response you get, Faina. still, i wonder why some don't hesitate to trample on what is clearly the holy ground of others.....

rex May 17th, 2005 02:39 PM

my supplication to the pliot, and all the science and engineeing that keeps the plane aloft IS my holy ground... you weren't thinking to trample on it, were you?

elaine May 17th, 2005 02:51 PM

trampling on holy ground?
On a public travel forum?
Isn't there a principal here of separation of church and...travel?

If FainaAgain's prayer brings her or anyone peace, I heartily support it.
I'm with rex though, I don't expect the deity to be flying everyone's plane, I pin my hopes on the pilot and the equipment and a little sedation.

uuhhhh May 17th, 2005 03:01 PM

"...you weren't thinking to trample on it, were you?"

no... i wouldn't be so insensitive...

rex May 17th, 2005 03:01 PM

anyhow, my plea can and should work for deists also. they do believe that the pilot and everyone else that flies or maintains that airplane... those people are god's instruments, in their eyes, right? if they act responsibly and scientifically, and it all works, well then, that is/was god's will, if i understand that point of view.

aggiemom May 17th, 2005 03:10 PM

Hi Faina - I, too, pray for safe travels all the time. This time, I pray for you and yours. Have a wonderful trip!

uuhhhh May 17th, 2005 03:23 PM

c'mon rex, it's a matter of respect for others' beliefs, regardless of how much more informed you think yours. you don't wear shorts at the Vatican; why here?

elaine May 17th, 2005 03:40 PM

I believe that to not wear shorts at the Vatican can be a purely practical rather than religious decision--they won't let you in.

LoveItaly May 17th, 2005 03:45 PM

elaine, LOL. So very true!!!

uuhhhh May 17th, 2005 03:51 PM

aahhhh i see.... respect is something given only out of practicality or necessity.... i don't think i want to live in that world... and i bet you think of yourself as openminded.

FainaAgain May 17th, 2005 03:54 PM

Ummm... I feel I need to say something... honestly I don't see any disrespect. I voiced my opinion, everybody else is entitled to do the same. Some people are deeply religious, some deeply atheistic, and anything in between.

Feel free to substitute His name with the pilot's name if you feel it works better then tipping the pilot ;)

And I don't think anybody is in a hurry to meet Him. Not me at least :)

seetheworld May 17th, 2005 03:57 PM

Have a wonderful and safe trip Faina! I always pray for a safe journey and that the pilots and mechanics are guided to do their job in the proper way. It's the only way I'll ever get on a plane, lol.

Eat lots of chocolate :)
