Prauge for 8 days? Convince me!
Have 8 days May or June. How is weather then? Traveling solo, looking to fall for a city as I have for Florence, Paris , Venice etc. Enjoy good, smaller type of restaurants. (non meat eater),hotel central to sights & restaurants.
Spa towns near by? How to get tickets for ballet etc.? Tours ? Sights to see? Any & all thoughts appreciated..Thanks |
The impression I get from people who have visited Prague is that there is alot to see and do there. Eight days seem good, maybe not enough.

Prague is a beautiful city with tons to see and do - but for 8 days you may want to consider including day trips to 1 or 2 of the popular towns or castles. May and June should be beautiful. Prices in Prague are very reasonable vs western Europe and there are many local tours to be had. We took 2 walking tours from the the Town Hall and they were both outstanding - really in-depth with great guides who were both informative and very amusing. And again, very inexpensive.
I'm not sure about ballet, but music is everywhere - from informal concerts in churches all the way up to Grand Opera. There's no problem getting info or tickets - the Town Hall has flyers for everything happening and future schedules for the more formal venues. You can buy tickets at any box office - often still available on the day of the concert! Also, there are numerous Mozart-costumed young people throughout the tourist areas of the city handing out flyers for concerts and other cultural activities - they all speak good English and can direct you to ticket offices. Lastly, explore the Castle District on your own - the tours give this very short shrift - there's much more to see/do if you do it yourself. |
Hi foodiem,
I went to Prague for 6 days, including one day trip outside the city to Karlstejn Castle. I thought one day less would have been enough and I'm an advocate of leisurely travel. I would either do a couple of day trips within the Czech Republic or combine Prague with another city, Vienna or Budapest perhaps. That's if your 8 days do not include travel days. I went at the end of May/beginning of June and the weather was good. Not hot. There were a couple of days where a light jacket/sweater were needed during the day. Go to some of the church concerts. People stand outside with flyers and there are lots to choose from, especially during Prague Spring. Just walking around Prague near Old Town Square is a joy. There's so much art on the buildings - you'll love it. |
We loved the Czech Republic - actually touring by car a good portion of the country in 8 days - Prague is an amazing city - with all of the sights you could imagine - I would highly recommend though taking train or driving thru the countryside - touring castles and towns along the way - we fell in love with a town in southern Czech called Cesky Krumlov - a medieval "moated" town on the Vlatva river that looks at it did in the 1600's.
