PRAIANO TO POMPEII

IN THE THROES OF PLANNING TRIP TO AMALFI COAST AREA. HAVING AN ABSOLUTE GAS. STAYING TWO WEEKS IN PRAIANO AND WISH TO DO DAY- TRIPS FROM THERE. WILL EXPLORE AMALFI COAST, CARPI, AND NO FURTHER NORTH THAN ROME (NOT A DAY TRIP). HOW DO WE TRAVEL MOST EFFICIENTLY FROM PRAIANO TO POMPEII AND NAPLES? IS IT BUS AND TRAIN OR IS THERE MORE DIRECT METHOD (BUS)? WOULD APPRECIATE ANY SUGGESTIONS AS REGARDS "SHOULD NOT MISS" PLACES, RESTAURANTS, ETC.. THANKS FOR ANY AND ALL ASSISTANCE IN ADVANCE.

Ciao,

Hi Skye,

The bus schedules you are looking for are at http://www.sita-on-line.it/CampaniaO...uadro%20XV.pdf

The one that stops at Pompeii doesn't stop in Praiano. You will have to get to Maiori.

Alternatively, you can take the bus from Praiano to Sorrento and the Circumvesuviana train to Pompeii and Naples.

You might find the Naples and AC portion of my trip report helpful:

Hi,
We stayed in Praiano and went to Pompeii for the day. We took the sita bus, which stops in Praiano, to Sorrento and the train to Ponpeii. It was very easy and they (bus and train) run frequently. I think there are ferries from Sorrento that go to Naples. That would be a nice way to get to Naples. We did a quick stop in Naples on the way to Rome, but not a day trip. Enjoy. It is one the beautiful places in this world.

There is an early morning SITA bus that will take you direct to the gates of Pompeii from the bus park in Amalfi or as yipper posts you can take the SITA bus from Praiano to Sorrento, where you then transfer to the CV train to Pompeii. SITA bus information is at WWW.sita-on-line.it (click on Campania) and CV train information is at WWW.vesuviana.it

Hi:
"Thanks" to all of you. We've never been to the European continent so it's all a bit intimidating. We were able to find the train fare from Rome to Sorrento, and bus schedules from there to Positano and beyond (as Buz Lightyear would say) but have no idea what the fares are. Where can we find that info? It's good info for budgeting.
We will most certainly chronicle our trip on this site. We've enjoyed Ira's monolagues so much that we will shamelessly copy his style and report all that we can record.
Thanks again,

Skye

Hi skye,

IIRC bus fare from Sorrento to Positano is about 3 E.

If you are asking the train fares from Rome to Naples - Eurostar 2nd class will be about 22.50 euro one way. The prices between Naples and Sorrento on the Circumvesuviana are about 5 euro. From Sorrento to Pompeii about 3 euro. The sita busses are a few euro between towns.

According to the website of the Circumvesuviana Line, here are one way fares:

Naples to Pompei: Euro 2.20
Naples to Sorrento: Euro 3.10
Pompei to Sorrento: Euro 1.80

trains run every 30 minutes.

www.vesuviana.it

From Sorrento to Amalfi (via Positano), SITA buses run approximately hourly. The one-way run takes 90 minutes.
