Prague's Old Jewish Cemetery

We don't have time to do a 3-hour tour of the Jewish Museum -- but would like to see/photograph the Old Jewish Cemetery, in addition to visiting the Old/New Synagogue. Is there a good street view of the cemetery?

Or should we bite the bullet and pay the Museum fee to see one of the other synagogues and gain entry into the cemetery?

There is a privacy fence around the cemetery. When we were there in 2014, there was some construction going on and we were able to peek in but really not much of a view.

We found the entire experience to be quite moving and well done. Pay the money and see as much as you can. It wasn't that expensive as I recall. In comparison to your entire trip, how much of a difference will it be if you pay admission? Just do it.

Don't forget to wash your hands when leaving the cemetery.

Are you visiting Terezin?

You don't see much at all from outside.

'Bite the bullet' is a poor choice of words when you think of the number of Jews who bit the bullet from the neck.

And I don't reacll it was so expensive.

I agree with DebitNM regarding visiting the Jewish Cemetery & Museum. The area is not all that large if you are concerned about spending "too much of your time" visiting that, yet a worthwhile experience to visit when in Prague.

It was a moving experience. FYI- The Jewish Ghetto area where the museum, cemetery is located happens to be a beautiful area in Prague.

There were also wonderful choices of restaurants in the area. It has been several years since I visited and can't find my list of the restaurant names.....but....they were special. The streets where very pretty with beautiful architecture & interesting detail on the buildings.

This is what it looks like as you visit the museum - http://gardyloo.us/PRG%20M%20009r.jpg

Great photo, gardyloo. What you can't capture though is the feeling that overtakes you as you walk through the cemetery. We were very moved with entire visit to the synagogues and cemetery.

A visit to that cemetery is well worth the time and money..wandering amidst the tombs stacked on each other and reading the stones...unforgetable..whole Jewish area needs minimum half day if not more.

Admission to the whole Jewish Museum in Prage, valid one week for one person is CZK 480, the permit to take pictures another CZK 70, a total of CZK 550, roughly $23.00.

It compares to the entrance fees of the American Museum of Natural History in New York (without special exhibitions) and the Whitney Museum of American Art ($22 each).

I suggest you pay the entrance fee (and think about phrases like "bite the bullet" in sensitive contexts).
