No first hand experience either.. heading to Prague in October, and I booked the Taste of Prague walking tour on my 2nd day... I love food plus I think there will be a nice mix of culture talked about too... reviews are good.

Well some of the tours are free so if you have enough days, you can take those tours.

With a guide you will at least have something explained about what you are seeing.

One tour says "View of the Castle". well you do not want to just "view " the Castle , you want to go and and walk around and see all the places inside including

the St. Vitus Cathedral, Royal Palace, St.George Basilica, Golden Lane, Dalibor Tower, Powder Tower.

Then roam about the Castle Square and looking down on Prague for terrific views.

But you can do this(see the Castle) on your own after the FREE tour.

On your own here is a good site:

We had a great architectural walking tour of the Old Town from an expert university student (his subject). Lasted about 1.5 hours, fascinating and only 7 people. I think it was $5 each (a few years ago) and we picked it up at the Town Hall.

I did the new Prague tour a couple of years ago, it was good fun but just skims over things but does give good info and you can always go back and visit other places propery, but as a general oversight it was fine.It is a free tour and we tipped the guide 200kc at the end which he seemed happy about.
I am a regular visitor to the city and really prefer to wander on my own or with friends, this link is quite good for working out what you want to see and do.

Thank you so munch for th gret information.
What about a tour to Terrezin? Can someone please recommend a good company?

I did the underground tour last month, it was very interesting. Great guide, small group, right length. Also did a ghost tour with the same company. It was a nice walking tour of the old town at dusk and not too spooky (actually not spooky at all, just some interesting, if slightly gruesome at times, stories)

this is the most highly recommend tour company for Terezin

We used Wittmann for tour of Jewish Quarter and they were excellent. We should have used them for tour to Terezin but used Viator; the local guide was very good but we didn't like the guide on the bus from Prague to Terezin.

We also used pstours.cz for an orientation bus tour of Prague, Informative Prague, and despite many favorable reviews, thought they were ok but not great.
