Prague Trip Report

Just back from four nights in Prague. The weather was wonderful, mild temps and clear blue skies each day.

Stayed at the Maximilan Hotel. Great location. Room was a good size for Europe and the bathroom very modern. Construction continues across the steet from the hotel, looks like it will be there for a long time to come. Noise early in the morning was an issue.

The front desk staff was horrible, they told my tour guide we had cancelled our hotel resv. thus she did not show up for our tour. Hotel later apoligized but it was too late. Other requests we made of the front desk never materialized. The breakfast was great and the free computer also a plus.

We saw Swan Lake at the National Theatre which was wonderful. Had great crepes at Cafe Salvia after the ballet. Saw the Black Light theatre at Parizska 4 which was also very enjoyable.

Found the best crystal buys at Crystalex at Male Namesti 6. Shipping was expensive so we took it with us. Found the best garnet buys at Granat at Dlouha 28. Wish I had bought more garnets.

Ejoyed lunch at Bazaar after visiting the castle and the walk down Nerudova St.

Had great goulash at Kolkovna and visited a fun beer hall called U Fleku at Kremencova 11. CHEZ MARCEL at Hastalská 12 was also very good.

Enoyed Prague very much, look forward to another visit soon.

LisaB: Glad you had a good trip and that in general you were pleased with the Maximilian since I gave it such a glowing recommendation. I am surprised you had a problem with the staff, as they were very efficient and accommodating with all our requests.

rhkkmk: We ate at Cafe Slavia after we attended an opera at the National Theatre. We had pancakes (actually crepes) with fresh fruit and coffee, but it seems to me there were more substantial meals on the menu. It's just across the street from the theatre and a lot of theatre goers went there after the performance.

Enjoy beautiful Prague.

Hi again DonW!

Is there a way to book theatre tickets online? My husband and I will be in Prague for the week around Christmas - would be great to surprise him with tix! Or would they be super expensive at that time of year?

The menu at the Cafe Salvia included food. Many were eating a full meal. Food looked good. I thought the Cafe would be packed after the show, but it was only half full. Guess many just go home.

The intermission at the ballet was about 30 minutes. There is a cash bar so the drinks flow as much as you want to pay for them.

I did book the ballet tickets on line, with the National Theatre web site.

They didn't ask for a credit card, you have to pick up and pay for the tickets in person. Make sure you do that by the deadline on the confirmation. Our tickets were 800 cz each for excellent seats.

Wish I were there now.

Cafe Slavia has a full menu. Gets mixed reviews, but I like it there.
