Mark - Loved your details regarding the gastronomy side of Prague. What I am seeking are nice, cosy, 'mid-range' style restaurants which serve good local czech food. I'm not after 'fussy', just good wholesome food, in a casual atmosphere. Any suggestions out of the ones you discussed? thanks!

I would recommend for mid range the Pilsen restaurant inthe basement of the Municipal House - beautfiul arts & craft tiles, furniture, etc reflective of the Czech countryside and defniitely more tradional Czech food. Reserve a mid- morning tour of the Municipal House then have lunch downstairs. There is "Cafe" opposite the French restaurant at the main entrance to the Municipal House which is casual and the space is over-the-top art nouveau - and once again, very reasonable.

U Zlate Hrusky,The Golden Pear, is located in the Castle District on Novy Svet - reviews say it caters tourist groups but has good food - the walk on Novy Svet at night is wonderful.

Mark, I just found your trip report. What a fantastic report! I'll be leaving for Prague next week and will go out of my way for good restaurants - especially "pretty" ones with good local specialities. Thank you!

My Prague trip report was my first organized posting here at Fodors. This past March I visited Oaxaca, Mexico and posted a restaurant report (still have to get around to posting my activities). I've visited Budapest, Barcelona, Rome, Vienna and Dubrovnik - but only posted bit's and pieces. I'm going to Hvar this Sept. and Istanbul in October and will post detailed summaries.

I'm really excited about Istanbul - the architecture, the history, the cuisine, the Turkish people. Hvar is more about relaxing but Croatia is wonderfully sublime.

What about you Travelbug? Places - trip reports - future trips?

I've not posted anything but a couple of questions on this forum. You've inspired me to post a trip report after I return from Eastern Europe (Warsaw, Krakow, Prague, and Budapest). I was in Prague and Warsaw 30 years ago and expect to see major changes. Our next big trip will be to Portugal in the spring. We hope to rent a car and stay in pousadas.

Hi myself and my girlfiend are travelling to Prague at Christmas time and want to know what restaurant to go for Christmas, which would have a good Christmas atmosphere. Is it better to have a Christmas Eve dinner, or Christmas day lunch.

Hope someone can lead me in the right direction.
