Prague to Cesky krumlov to Viennaadvice needed

My plan for our October trip had been to fly into Prague and fly out of Vienna. This is a one week trip. I had thought about a day trio to Cesky while in Prague. As I look at a map I am wondering if it may be more time and cost efficient to plan to drive to Vienna in a rented car with an overnight in Cesky. The car is $340, but by the time i'd pay for a train and a day trip the car may be less costly. What do experienced CZ travelers think? Any ideas on a hotel in Cesky?? Any help wpuld be great.

I do this routing a couple times every year. Take the train!

Take the train (every two hours) from Prague to Ceske Budejovice (this is where I stay, actually). There is a small local train line from CB to Cesky Krumlov. Spend the night here, which gives you a full day in CK.

You can also take a bus from Florenc station in Prague to CK, but I prefer the train.

Then when you are ready to go to Vienna, take the local train line back to Ceske Budejovice and change to a train to Vienna. There are a couple direct trains from CB to Vienna, or you can also change trains at the border (Ceske Velenice/Gmund), which is very easy. It depends on when during the day you travel.

You can also go from CB via Linz to Vienna, but that is more expensive and longer.

Castleblanca - thank you, that is very helpful. Is there a web site that I can check the local train schedules between CB and CK?

Seafox: I normally use www.db.de for all train schedules in Europe.

http://www.db.de/site/bahn/de/start.html

If you don't speak German, then click on the "English" option.
