Prague to Cesky krumlov by bus
I am considering taking a bus from Prague to CK next month. Is there a web site that has the schedules. Can we reserve seats from the US now? If not, should we expect any problem reserving seats a few days before (once we get there)? Does anyone know the costs?

The best/quickest way if you do not have a car. Ride the train to Ceske Budovice, from there take a taxi & have them drop you off in the main square. The tourist office is right there. The train from Ceske Budovice to Ceske Krumlov is a crowded commuter which stops every 50 meters, hence the cab.

We did this trip last June and used Mike's Chauffer service.
We were arriving at Prague and going to CK to spend the night. They met us at the airport, took us to our CK hotel, picked us up 2 days later (we arrived quite late the 1st day) and took us back to Prague to our hotel.
There were 4 of us (with luggage) and I think the whole cost was about $600. Not cheap - but well worth it to have pickup times that we wanted, not to have to worry about train schedules, and for door to door service. The driver was also willing to stop for us if we wanted a drink or a quick bite to eat.

seafox, we recently took a bus from Prague to Cesky Krumlov and back. The return trip cost only 352 Kc per person, which is about 14 euros, i.e. only 7 euros each way. The bus leaves from Na Knezeci bus depot in Smichov area, and takes about 3 hours each way, and is quite comfortable.
We booked just one day in advance, during high season, and had absolutely no problems in getting tickets. I would imagine that crowds will be even less in October, so I don't think you need to book more than a day in advance, if even that.
There are two different agencies that run Prague-CK buses. One of them has their booking counter right at Na Knizeci bus station, which is what we took (I am sure they have other booking counters too). I remember that there is another operator called Studentagency, whose buses are supposed to be a tad better, whose booking counters are elsewhere. Your hotel will know; ask them when you reach Prague.
In general, buses leave in the morning from Prague, between 7:30am to 8:30am. Return buses from CK are in the late afternoon, starting from 3:30pm till about 5:30pm or so.

This website has a journey planner showing buses and trains in the Czech Republic:
www.jizdnirady.idnes.cz
As far as I can see, it's only in Czech, but it's easy to use if you've used any other similar website. "Vlaky" are trains and "autobusy" you can guess.

Is taking the train to Ceske Budovice and then a cab, better than taking the bus from Prague to CK (which also stops in Ceske Budovice)? One advantage of taking the train might be that you have the option of hanging out in the square at Ceske Budovice or touring the brewery, etc. I will be in Prague next week and am also trying to decide whether I should join a tour for the day and just totally relax, or strike out on my own as so many of you have.
