Prague to Berlin train - help
Hi Fodorites!
3 weeks to go till our trip! I need to get to Berlin from Prague and trying to do it as cheaply as possible. I cant find the price for the EC train - tried the Czech Rail site with no success - anyone know this? It will be 2 of us travelling. |
That will probably cost $40 to $50 each. Buy the ticket in Praha. Avoid panhandlers in the Praha station. |
thanks hopscotch

Even more importantly, avoid pickpockets..they work in groups there.

Important.
There are 2 train stations in Prague. Most trains to Berlin depart from the Holesovice station on the north side of town. It's easy to get to (last stop on the n/s subway line (red line I believe)). Just don't go to the station downtown and expect to hop on the train there as you'll be s.o.l. |
The fare is €54.80. See the timetables and fares at www.bahn.de. Click on "Internat. Guests" for English.

TimS,
It may be that tickets purchased in Praha are less expensive than those purchased in Germany. Last year my ticket from Praha to Dresden, more than half the distance to Berlin, cost €19.30. The Bahn site says this is €24.80 now. That would be a 28% increase in one year. It think that that magnitude of a price increase is unlikely. Maybe adelcouple will report back and let us know what they end up paying? |
when i checked Prague-Dresden-Berlin prices it seemed it also depended on the train - prices did not seem universal.
and if for a few euro i didn't have to bother buying a ticket in Prague i'd do it. Some folks say they've waited in long lines. |
hopscotch,
The bahn.de site shows a fare of €19.80 from Praha to the first stop in Germany and a fare of €39 (discount fare booked online of €29) from there to Berlin. |
