Prague to Basel, Car--Train---Bus??
 

We will be arriving in Prague and have about a week to get to Basel. We would like to go to Nuremberg. What would be the best means of travel and are there any sites/cities we should add to our itinerary??
There are 3 couples in our party.

There is a City Night Line sleeper that goes direct from Prague to Basel if you don't mind travelling overnight.

If you want to visit Nuremberg there is a bus from Prague to Nuremberg. From Nuremberg there are a bunch of routes you could take to get to Basel but bearing in mind you have a week and don't want to spend all of it travelling, the quickest routes are with a change at Karlsruhe or Frankfurt.

The CNL sleeper leaves Prague Hlavni 18:29, arrives Basel SBB 07:54.

So it's convenient, centre to centre and saves a hotel bill too.

But pay more attention Man - OP says they want to go to Nurnburg so the night train is out.

Yes take a bus from Prague to Nurnberg then you can wander via several different routes to Basel - like taking the Castle Road bus down the gorgeous Castle Road from Rothenburg to Heidelberg - both two of the nicest old towns in Germany - then head over to the Rhine for a few days or into the Black Forest around Freiburg and onto Basel.

If traveling enough and you want full flexibility in German check out the bargain-priced German Twin Rail Pass, which now I believe has a cheap add-on fare for travel by train also to/from Prague.

Or you could head down to Munich and base there or in a nearby smaller town like Garmisch and do day trips to Fussen for Mad Ludwig's Castles, or to Salzburg, Austria for the day and then take a scenic train ride via Ulm - stop off to see the great cathedral there and then take the train thru the scenic black forest to Freiburg - stay there a day or so to do some other scenic rail trips to the Black Forest - like the lovely one to Titisee - an idyllic Alpine pond high up in the mountains - then take the short rail ride to Base.

With that much time between Prague and Basel you have the luxury of making this a very special trip. Consider deviating from the straight line and taking buses or trains via places like Plzen (home of the real Pilsener beer), Ceske Budejovice, Cesky Krumlov, Passau, Regensburg, before getting to Nürnberg.

Then swing by Rothenburg ob der Tauber and Tübingen and the Black Forest (Titisee) on your way to Basel.

This will take some looking up of train and bus schedules, but it will make this a very special week!
