That's a very full itinerary, giving you little more than a day or two in most destinations. While you can see the basics in that time, I can't see that you'll have time for even the main things on the beaten path, much less out-of-the-way things. But I think it's a workable itinerary if you like to be on the move all the time. I don't, so I would likely limit myself to Prague, Vienna, and Budapest, and reclaim some of that travel time for day-trips. But that's my preference. I realize it doesn't apply to everyone.

I'm sorry that I can't help with the shuttles, but they seem to be available and take about 3 hours.

We Iive in Vienna and travel about frequently; and like the above poster noted, you are on the run with your itinerary. You will be rushing about, snapping away at the "Must-See," but at the same time not seeing anything at all and perhaps regretting your schedule. With this itinerary you have no time for anything "out of the way."

If this were my holiday, I would cut Salzburg and perhaps even Cesky Krumlov, and devote more time to Prague, Vienna and Budapest, arranging the days depending on your interests. October holds many autumn festivals in and around those three cities, and you would have the opportunity to experience something beyond the usual. From Vienna, for example, the Wachau Valley in October can be stunning, with the hillside vineyards changing colors against the castle ruins perched atop the Danube. Or, even if you remain in Vienna proper, the city's vineyards offer excellent day outing walks, winding through the vines to the wine villages.

You haven't given us any info about yourself, how old you are, who you'll be with, what your interests/limitations are, your preferred travel style, etc. That said there are many seniors and retirees on here who prefer a slower pace and have a bias towards more time vs. more places. I'm somewhere in the middle so my recommendation would be to stay in Prague and use it as a base for a single daytrip to CK instead of relocating entirely.(there are tours for $67) After Prague take the train to Munich where there are hourly trains to Salzburg.

We have done the four cities you mention for 3 nights each city. For us, it was very easy.

Do you intend to return to this area again. That's always a consideration.

Our first trip to Prague, we took the train from Prague to Salzburg thru Munich and it took at least 7 hours.

Perhaps there are faster trains in todays world, as our first trip to Prague was in the mid-90's.

I can remember the train passing thru Regensburg and loved the sight.

I certainly agree, it's how do you like to travel. We are movers. Others like to slow down. All thoughts are relevant.

I think there may be a bus from Prague to Salzburg that is quicker than the train. Like 5 hours.
