Prague Private Siteseeing Tours
 

We are going to Prague in September and I have heard that getting a general overview of the city on the first morning is a great way to see where you want to spend the rest of your time there. I will be traveling with (3) other people, so (4) total and we don't want to go on a big group tour. Rather, we'd like to go on a private tour. Does anybody have any suggestions for private tour guides (somebody you used who you thought was awesome). And, can you please tell me why you loved the person/company so much. Thanks!

I'm sure the tourist office could help you if no one chimes in, but this is no necessity. The main attractions are actually quite confined: the main square and Josefov are close together, then the St. Charles Bridge takes you across to the castle district. Of course there are other things to see, but you really won't suffer from lack of a guide, especially with so much time to familiarize yourself with the layout of the city and read about it.

I don't see why you need a tour.

You can easily divide tourist Prague into 3-4 areas and walk them yourself.


Old Town
ewish Area (very well organized and easy to see right near the main square).
Castle area
Mala strana

And the "event" of visiting the Charles Bridge at different times of the day. I went at sunrise, mid day and sunset.

it is quite easy to walk around prague I wouldn't worry about a tour. But I must recommend day at the shooting range, Your hotel can arrange it and it is great fun!! Expensive though!

We took a private tour in Prague with this guide: www.prague-guide.info. We'd never done a tour like that before so I have nothing to compare it to, but we really enjoyed it. Our guide told us about the history of the city and the buildings and answered all our questions. It gave us a better understanding and appreciation of the city than if we'd been on our own.

We have some people in our group who very much want to understand the historical perspective of what we're seeing when we look around, that's why we want to get a tour. And, because we do not like to be with a lot of other people, we think a private tour is the way to go. Any other suggestions for prague would be appreciated. Thanks for your replies.

CLZ, Which particular tour did you go on from Prague-guide?

We just got back from Prague.

We took photocopies from some guidebooks and the contact information of some local guides if we needed them.

Prague is easy to explore on one's own. Upon arriving, we never felt we needed a tourguide.

Swissgirl, we didn't ask for a particular tour but we did something like the Classic tour. This tour company was totally flexible and asked what we were most interested in and would have taken us exactly where we wanted to. However we wanted them to tell us where to go, so they did. We walked along the edge of New Town, through Old Town, across the bridge, through Mala Strana, and back across another bridge. Our guide would have gone on longer but we had our kids with us and they were done after 2 hours. And then we visited the other parts of town without a guide.

We just got back and used Dana Chaloupkov. She is very pleasant and speaks excellent English. A guide really is not a must but we saw and understood much more by having Dana.
