PRAGUE OR VIENNA?
I'm taking my sister to Italy for her first time this April. I have been there before, but wondered if it's possible to do a day tour in either Prague or Vienna, spend one night, and then continue on to Venice. Which city might be more convenient as far as getting from the airport to the city center? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Julie's sis

Both are great cities, but neither would seem to be logical day trips from Italy--although Vienna is closer. It would seem that you'd spend a lot of time traveling for a just a day, even if you fly. It's an easy trip into Vienna from the airport, but I'm not sure of Prague. Can't you at least add another night?

Yes, I'm sure an extra night might be wise. Or would it be feasible to stay a night and a day in Vienna and then take a sleepover train to Venice?

It might help to know more about your itinerary-- like where you're starting your trip and where you're leaving from. Would you be doing Vienna as a round trip from somewhere in Italy?
But to answer your question, spending all night on a train seems like a lot to put up with to get a glimpse of Vienna. And this is coming from someone who tends to do ambitious itineraries. As you may know, a good source of train schedules is at http://bahn.hafas.de/bin/query.exe/en Perhaps you can also check out the discount airlines on http://www.whichbudget.com/en/ for more alternatives. |
Hi K,
Anything is possible. Are you planning on going to P or V and then on to Italy? ((I)) |
Vienna is a great place and deserves more than a day.
