Prague: Include it in our itinerary?

My sister and I are in the process of loosely planning a trip to Europe. We will be visiting family in Germany Switzerland and Austria, but would like to extend our trip and include a few other places. Would anyone reccommend Prague? I have a strange attraction to it!

Prague is a beautiful city, also cheap, fun, and kind of relaxing, though less cultural sort of things (museums & such) to do than other major cities in Europe. I wouldn't go WAY out of your way to see it, but if you're, say, going between Berlin & Vienna, it's pretty easy to do, and worth a couple of days.

IF you are attracted to a city which has an "older" section that still (despite the presence of trams and cars) retains a truly medieval look and feel, then definitely include Prague. The city continues to be used for exteriors in movies from "Amadeus" to the more recent "Bourne Identity" (where it "doubled" for Zurich).

I think you will never regret visiting this city and there is plenty to see and do IMO. Go for it!

Hi S,

Yes, the Castle does attract one, doesn't it?

You should go, if it fits in logistically with Switzerland, Austria, and Germany. It's very beautiful and atmospheric and there's plenty to do. Just be prepared for some of the most sullen, joyless, unpleasant, borderline hostile people in Europe (IMHO). It will come as quite a shock after Germany and Austria.

When I showed my US passport, the border guards seemed happy to see it, and barely looked at it. However, the EU people got a VERY thorough checking, maybe it just depends on who you get. Though the guard was the laziest I've seen (stamped my passport on the very last page, when it's a good ways from being full).

Prague is one of my three favorite European cities -- Paris and Venice being the other two. You MUST see it. I don't remember all the sullen people mentioned above!

thank you for your advice, I think we will try to fit it in , I am really attracted to the medievel look of it, but also the modern tourist-y aspect. I think I better take a look!
