Prague in May or August

We have to reschedule a trip to Prague, Vienna, Budapest and Poland that we had planned for October. Would we be better off to go late April and May or August???

We went to Prague, Vienna and Budapest last May and the weather was very good, actually hot in Budapest. That being the case, one would think that August would be much hotter.

We did not experience huge crowds in any city, and by planning and reserving ahead were able to attend concerts, take tours, etc. with no problem.

We've not toured any of those locations in August, but we thought May was an excellent choice and this was actually one of the best trips we have taken to Europe.

May should be better than August. Rain probabilities will be almost the same, and temperatures in late April/May will be about 10 degrees cooler than in August. A typical high for a May day in that area would be around 65 to as much as 70 degrees F. Also, in general the tourist crowds will be thinner. Good luck.

Although Prague always celebrates her favorite composer, my friend went in May and said that they have a grand Mozart Festival in that month. August seems like it would be crowded. I suspect any time you go to Prague you are going to have a wonderful time. It's a lovely city.

We really enjoyed Vienna, Prague and (a little bit of) Poland this past May. Among other things, be aware that there is also a marathon in Prague - - either the second or third Sunday in May. Festive atmosphere, but it clogs traffic in and around the Jewish quarter a lot for several hours.

Best wishes,

Rex

april and may---avoid hot weather and hords of tourists

I recently visited Prague and Budapest in August. Budapest was hot and Prague was, not surprisingly, "crowded" but only in the "usual" tourist-interest areas such as the Castle, around the Astrological Clock, etc. You might be better opting for May when it might not be as warm and perhaps not as many visitors in Prague but I suspect there'll still be plenty since they're probably thinking the same way you are! Enjoy your trip.
