Prague in March?? Is the city asleep?
 

I found a great deal to go to Prague in March, but I saw something on the Fodors website that many attractions are closed in March(since tourist season typically begins in April.) Does anyone have any experience or advice before I book the trip?

I should say Prague has no off season. From England at least, and I think from other parts of western Europe, people fly over for weekend breaks throughout the winter. The city is packed at Christmas and Easter. I have just checked a 1999 guide book, and everything is open at and beside the castle, in Mala Strana, the Jewish Quarter, Old Town, and Wenceslas Square. It is true that the iron tower by the rose gardens is closed, and the Hvezda Summer Palace may be closed in winter (fair enough).

I've spent several days in Prague in Feb. Everything was open and there were quite a few tourists as well.

Cameron: We're spending a few days in Prague this coming February. When you were there, what was the weather like? We're struggling with what kind of outerwear to take to Eastern Europe. Thanks.

I haven't been in February but I've been in November and December. Besides the non-specific "layering" everyone always recommends I would take a down-filled outerwear jacket that can easily be compressed, weighs little, but keeps you warmer than anything else in one piece. If it is too wwar,. strip it off and expose those "layers" below.

there's some kind of rumor around here lately that Prague's attractions close down during the winter. They don't.
Some places close 30-60 minutes earlier in the late afternoon, and of course daylight hours are fewer, but the city is open for tourist business all year.
