Prague in 3 days??

Hi Everyone - I was thinking of booking a long weekend in Prague through Go-Today. Is 3 days really enough time to feel like you've accomplished much in Prague?? Of course I'd love to stay longer but I am just looking for a long weekend trip as of now. Also, any experience with the hotels in Prague through Go-Today?? What neighborhood is the best in which to stay in Prague? Thanks!!

If 3 days is your limit, you are really asking the question: Is it worth making the trip to Prague, given the time you have?

I'd say yes. You may find yourself planning immediately to return for a second look. But you won't feel frustrated -- as you might with a 3 day trip to London, for example.

Stay in a central spot as convenient as possible for traversing the river. That is essential to getting the most out of your trip.

That means Stare Mesto or Mala Strana. Either is a good centre -- and I have stayed in both.

I would avoid staying up by the Castle though -- simply because of all the climbing and descending it requires, when you plan to be on your feet all day.

I agree with tedgale.
Go to Prague! I'm returning there myself later this afternoon, and it is a beautiful city. If you can, don't plan for July and August when I hear it is amazingly crowded. Will you have 3 full days?

If you mention the hotels here, people can offer input, and you can also check for comments at tripadvisor.com
Streetwise Prague is a good map for a short trip.

We only had three days and nights in Prague last June, and it was definitely enough time to get a good feel for the city and to enjoy every minute. Do stay close in, like near the bridge or in old town. Pension Dientzenhofer always gets good reviews here.

We used Go-Today for our trip to Prague 2 years ago......everything went very smoothly. Hotel was fine...I'll check for the name of hotel & repost.
We opted for the 6 night stay....ended up staying an additional night due to the blizzard in New York.

Yes...go...even if you only have 3 nights!

Kinsky Garden Hotel.......a lower on the list choice.
It was nice....plenty of space in the room. A very nice dining room. Near a tram stop!! I'd go back!

I've been there 9 times, but went a few weeks ago for 3 days. Have also gone in the fall for 4 days. No, of course it's not enough time, but if you stay in Old Town Square, you can get a really good feel of the city. That way, when you return, you can explore more in depth. If Old Town is not possible, then stay in Mala Strana. It's a wonderful place to stroll around. You can cover the castle, Old Town, and go shopping in a 3 day time period. I would go for it!

Thanks everyone!! Excellent advice. Based on this feedback, I am definitely going for at least 3 days. I am also now considering extending the trip to 6 days - but, another question for you. Should I keep my 3 days in Prague and do the other 3 in Budapest. OR would you recommend spending the full 6 days in Prague??

eroz Apr 18th, 2005 07:26 AM

I'd add Budapest. For 3 days you can get an apt for a very reasonable rate. Search on these boards, we've found several but not sure what to book yet. We'll be going in November, can't wait!

Depends - how soon are you planning on traveling again? If you are dying to see Budapest, then go there, as well. You can certainly spend 6 days in Prague without getting bored, though. Research the highlights of both places, and if you feel like you must see both now, then go. If you don't mind whirlwind tours/vacations, 3 days are enough for a taste of each. I kind of like to assimilate into the culture & take my time in one place that I love, but getting a taste of a new place can be nice, as well.

Try the apartments at Residence Retezova for accomodation.

This is an excellent option for staying in Prague. They are actually little apartments, or in the case of the one we stayed in, the ‘London’ apartement, HUGE! It also has a terrific little cafe below it and is smack in the middle of the Old Town between the main square and Charles Bridge. Highly recommended as an alternative to a hotel.

If you can stay longer then consider two short trips to another town in that country? for example i went to cesky krumlov overnight and loved it. I just caught a bus for a few dollars there and back.
