Prague Hotels-please help!
 

Hi,<BR>I am visiting Prague in May and have provisionally booked the Best Western Hotel Kampa. It looks ok- has anyone stayed there? There doesn't seem to be a lot of information on the Fodor travel talk threads..<BR>The other hotel I am interested in is The house At The Three Drums (U tri bubnu) . Does anyone know anything about this hotel? Is it in a good location.<BR><BR>If anyone has any other recommendations I would greatly appreciate it- I want a hotel that's central, in a safe area, and which has some character. My budget is around 150euros per room per night.<BR>Thanks..

Keith - I stayed at the Hotel Constans - it's midway between Charles Bridge and the Castle. Great little boutique hotel. I paid around $125 a night - and I got one night free and car service from the airport - which I booked through Travelcook.com. We stayed at The Cloister Inn in 1999. It is located centrally half way between Wenselas Square and Old Town Square. In 1999 it was around $100 US a night. It has an elevator, had a good breakfast, helpful staff. I believe it was a old convent across from the old police station. We walked everywhere including across the bridge from there. It was clean and perhaps more modern than quaint. It also had parking if you reserved in advance which was good for us. Check Rick Steves (Germany Austria &amp; Switz, includes Prague). He usually has some budget recommendations and he is opinionated so that may help you decide. We also walked to the Jewish quarter from there, once did take the trolley over to the castle the station is near by.

Keith: We too are visiting Prague in May. I tried to reserve at the House of the Three Drums, but it was booked for the time requested. Perhaps you'll have better luck. We are staying at the Maximilian (which gets great raves here), but it is more expensive than you have specified.

I can second the recommendation for the Cloister Inn. Great location - short walk to the main sites, but away from the crowds. Nice but simple rooms, good breakfast.

I don't know the Best Western Hotel Kampa, but if it is on Kampa Island, at least the location will be wonderful.

The Kampa is a nice hotel just on the edge of Mala Stran, about a 10 minute walk from Chrles bridge along the river. It has a medieval decor with coats of armor etc, I believe they even have a weekly show in the large dining hall. The Three drums is in a very central location but have only (I believe) 5 or 6 rooms, they are still working on some of the rooms I believe but the finished ones are quite nice
