Prague Hotels- Adv. booking?
Hey everyone,
Does anyone know if hotel rates are any better/worse if one waits until the day of arrival to book? I understand there may be some headaches searching for a hotel the day of arrival, but was interested ins your experience. I was leaning more toward booking in advance, but if there might be a substantial savings in waiting until day of arrival.... Thanks for your help. |
You best choice of hotel, rooms and rates are reserving in advance - when you have a lot of choices. If you wait til the lst minute you get the hotels that are left, the rooms that are left and the prices they choose to charge.
(Maybe lower rates if Prague is empty - but it's been full for 15 years - when do you think it;s going to be empty?) |
Wherever you stay i'll make a suggestion.
When you get a rate, ask for it in the local currency (crowns) and not in Euros. We were quoted in Euros "for our convenience" and I believe when they converted to the local currency "at their bank rate" it wasn't to our advantage. Same thing happened in Budapest. "For our convenience". Their currency is not euros. |
You may be stuck in a sub-standard hotel in a distant suburb if you wait to find a hotel in Prague on your day of arrival. The only time I'd even consider something like that is if you are going in the dead of winter (i.e., January or February). Even then, the money you save will be on the seasonal rate rather than "waiting." The good hotels (and best deals) in Prague are snatched up far in advance.

I personally would never wait till day of arrival. It would be too nerve-wracking and time-consuming. Try livingprague.com for a helpful website with hotels and restaurants named.

They've hooked me up with places the day before arrival in the summer, and it was a downtown location. I think if you just show up to their office the day you arrive, you can get great discounts. Read the website, though, because I haven't used them in the past few years. |
