Prague hotel suggestions, please

We are a couple in our 50's who will be spending 3 days in Prague with our 25 year old son. One of us ( me) has bad knees.
We are looking for a hotel to stay in Prague. Would love to stay in a place with character. A view would be a plus. Within reason, we would be able to stay at a higher end hotel.
All suggestions very much appreciated.

We need to know your budget. And it would help to know what time of year you're going.

We stayed at the Inter-Continental which has a great location, views of the river, interesting art in the public areas. It doesn't have old-world character but I decided to mention it because of the location and over all high quality.

We stayed there because a friend had discount coupons and access to the concierge club which had excellent breakfasts and cocktail hour. I also have knee problems but was able to walk from there all over the old town. We took a tram up to the castle area.

You might check for special offers.

We'll be going at the end of August ( I know, I know....). Would be happy to spend up to 300 Euros, or more, for someplace truly wonderful. Happy to rent an apartment as well (we'll be staying 3 nights). Always happy to pay less for a someplace, especially if its well recommended on this forum.

We are staying at Hotel General in November. Got it through hotwire for $106 a night.

Would appreciate tsuggestions as to whether to stay in the center of the old town or across the river.

Also, where does one get the best deals these days?

We stayed at the Savic Hotel a couple of years ago, and I've recommended it to friends and we all thought it was charming. 200 meters to Old Town Square, 500 meters to the Charles Bridge, and about 500 meters to where we caught a tram (Narodni Trida) to Prague Castle.

I don't know if you mean 300 euros for one room or two, but you could get two rooms at the Savic for under 300 euros.

We stayed at Pachtuv Palace a few years ago, very close to the Charles Bridge and the Square. The rooms were beautifully renovated, and the hotel oozed character. It's too rich for my blood, but we stayed for business, and it was a real treat.

What about the Four Seasons! Great central location near the square, one of the top hotels in the city, and you can get a room there for 290€ (using the dates 19AUG-3NT).

If you book through a Four Seasons Preferred Partner TA, you get some valuable extra amenities free of charge.

* Daily full American breakfast for two people per bedroom, served through In-Room Dining or in the hotel restaurant (including buffets)

* Food and beverage credit of USD100

* Upgrade of one category, based on availability at time of check-in (excluding signature suites and villas)

* Complimentary high-speed Internet access for all guest room and suite bookings

Check out Iron Gate Hotel.

It is in a fabulous location. Was voted Best Hotel in Prague Post a few years ago.

I am quoted 4 times in Fodor's Prague.

We have stayed at Hotel Leonardo twice during the last year at the recommendation of a friend, and it has been great. The service is excellent and rooms very nice.

We will also be in Prague at the end of August with our 20-something sons. We're thinking of the new boutique hotel, La Ballerina.

It's somewhat removed from the tourist scene. Reviews are great and there's a fabulous introductory rate for a 2-bedroom suite w/ terrace, but will this be too far from the nightlife for our boys?

Jean Jul 8th, 2014 06:35 AM

crosscheck, Prague isn't that big. La Ballerina is about a mile from Old Town Square.

Thanks, Jean - what do you think of that neighborhood?

(Sorry for the hijack, pmb)

Hi, Thanks to all for your suggestions. For my dates in August, the iron gate Hotel (one bedroom royal suite for Euro 220) and Pachtuv palace (junior suite with view for euro 285)are available. Both rooms will sleep 3. Does anyone have suggestions as to he pros and cons of each. I have seen some negative reviews about the upkeep of the Pachtuv rooms (smells in bathrooms, Soviet era furnishings, or similar). Anyone with first hand experience?

On a separate note, the Golden Well looks fantastic, if a bit out of the town center,

Prague buffs, suggestions please

packmybags Jul 15th, 2014 01:19 PM

Anyone?

travelhorizons Jul 15th, 2014 01:30 PM

I still think the Four Seasons with the Preferred Partner amenities is going to be a better value, and a far more comfortable hotel, than the others mentioned.

Pepper_von_snoot Jul 15th, 2014 02:06 PM

Both hotels get rave reviews on TA so just pick one.
