Prague hotel recommendations
 

We're staying in Prague for 4 nights in May 2013. Does anyone have hotel recommendations where they've had good experience? Also, what is the most convenient area to stay in (Old Town)? Our price range is about 100 - 150 per night.

100-150 what? Euros, dollars, pounds, zloty, koruna (good luck with that), rubles, yen, rupees, pesos . . .

Assuming dollars - look at Bishop's House (Mala Strana, 60 meters from the Charles Bridge; I stayed there - big clean rooms) or U Zlatych Nuzek (Kampa Island) or similar. Assuming pounds, you have more flexibility . . .

Most convenient to what? If you anticipate spending a lot of time around the Castle, then Old Town is not convenient at all. Generally, Old Town is convenient for Old Town and Josefov and, if not too far from the river, convenient for New Town. You'll need public transport for the Castle and Vinohrady districts. But the general guidance is stay in Prague 1 district.

This may be in within your budget. Eay to the old town, but then more walking to the Charles bridge and the castle. www.hotel-paris.cz

But another place we have stayed at the Charles bridge is perhaps 15 minutes and then 15 minutes walk uo to the castle. www.utripstrosu.cz If you consider this hotel, ask for a room looking out at the bridge.

With four nights, I would definitely recommend staying within the area enclosed by the tram line. We were outside and had to take the tram into the old town each time. Staying near Charles Bridge as indicated by iris seems the perfect answer.

I recently stayed in the Mala Strana at the 4* Hotel Klarov for a fairly cheap price. There was a discount on their website for stays of 3 days.

It's not far from the Charles Bridge, and very close to 2 metro stations. There is a small park in front of the hotel. The rooms face the Prague Castle. I loved the location.

Rates include breakfast.

Hotel Aria in Prague (in Mala Strana, near the American Embassy, but a short walk from the Charles Bridge) is without a doubt, one of the best hotels we have ever visited. They typically run a promotion at this time of the year where you can book three nights for the price of two if you pre-pay. That would bring their price down to a little over 150 euros per night (156 I think). The garden behind the hotel and the music themed rooms are wonderful, and the staff is most accommodating. It was a bit over our price range, but the 3 for 2 made it more reasonable, and we will definitely return when we next visit Prague.

We stayed at the Hotel Unitas in October 2011 and it was lovely. Very large comfortable room that was very quiet, helpful staff, very good included breakfast and afternoon snacks. www.unitas.cz
The major tennants on the street are the police department so we felt safe but the street is not particularly charming. We were able to walk almost everywhere but did use the tram to get to the castle. The hotel is near the river, a Tesco and many good restaurants a block or two away.

I stayed at Hotel Paris for 4 nights - great location (near Republic subway, lots of restaurants, concert/opera hall). Within 10 minutes walk to the main square (with the mechanical clock). Hotel is art nouveau style w/attractive furnishings, the included breakfast was very good and staff is helpful.

Another vote for <b>The Three Ostriches (U Tri Pstrosu)</b> Iris (Dick) and I usually recommend this hotel in tandem. We are not on the payroll (he's in NH, I'm in L.A.)...we've tried but have been ignored.

We stayed at the Hotel Maximilian which is on a quiet street in the old town. We found it very easy to walk everywhere from here. The hotel is quite modernized. I thought the rooms were fine, nothing special, but the breakfast included in our very reasonable room rate was the best hotel breakfast I've ever had. We couldn't believe the amazing buffet displayed each morning -- just a terrific way to start the day in the pleasant breakfast room.

When you view www.praguewelcome.cz/en click on visit and you will see the hotel Stu is talking about. It is just to the right of the Tower.

With this location it's perhaps 15 minutes to the old town center and perhaps a 15 minute walk up to the castle.

We booked the Hotel Unitas. Got a great deal. Thanks for all your input!
