I will be visiting Prague next May for 4 days and would love some suggestions of great hotels that are well situated,good amenities and not too expensive. My travel agent threw out a few names today like Best Western, Metamorhis,Hoffmeister, Clarion, Novatel, Golden Tulip. Anyone with any experience with these properties? or better suggestions?

I can only tell you about the hotel we stayed at, the Maximilian, which was excellent, but I don't know what you consider expensive. We paid €201 three years ago for a larger than average, very comfortable room, and the included breakfast was much better than most. The staff was pleasant and helpful. Also, they have a car service which we used on occasion (a nice alternative to not so trustworthy taxis). It is very well located too.

You really need to define the term, "Not too expensive."

I know of several Prague hotels which offer everything you want but without knowing what your upper budget limit is....

I just booked a room for early May 2007 at the Ramada City Center on Wenceslas Square for 93€ per night. It's for a "generic" room, for 2 people. They also have Delux rooms available for 110€ per night.

I realize some people aren't happy with Wenceslas Square, but this seems like a great price.

Any opinions?? I'd love some feedback on this hotel.

I also might have some suggestions, but you must specify your price range. I have no idea what you think is not too expensive. The names you mention are all over the place in price, I believe. Also, I don't think there is one single hotel that is a Best Western, Clarion, etc. Those are hotel groups or chains and usually have several in a city, but you don't usually pick a hotel by a chain name, but by the property. Best Western doesn't mean anything special that would make you decide, you have to specify the exact hotel. If your travel agent is claiming every single Best Western in Europe is identical, they don't know what they are talking about. That's just a hotel consortium that individual hotels below to for marking experience. Golden Tulip is also not the name of a hotel, but a chain or hotel group. I know of one in Prague, but that wouldn't be the way to pick a hotel. I suspect your agent doesn't know anything about hotels in Prague or those wouldn't be the suggestions in that manner. Unless you are asking for chain names rather than the real name of the hotel. At least there are two real names in there.

We just returned from Prague and we stayed at the K + K Central, a small boutique hotel 5 minutes from Old Town Square. I don't recall how much it was, but we booked the hotel through Expedia, and we were looking for location and value. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, and the breakfast buffet was ample and tasty. They also have their own car and driver if needed. We had no complaints about this hotel. It is not particularly fancy--it is small, attractive, contemporary, and comfortable--and best of all during the current heat wave, it was air-conditioned! You can look at the photos online and decide if it is something you might consider.

Thanks you so much for all your comments. I have not really had the time to research Prague yet, I have just been told that it's a wonderful place to visit. We are taking a cruise from Athens to Venice next May and will go to Prague post cruise. I need to make a decision regarding the trip to Prague from Venice and whether or not to fly, drive or train. Once in Prague I would like to stay central to the atractions and would consider paying $200-$300 a night for the right place. At the moment I am ignorant as to Prague, its atractions and environs and would also appreciate any input on where to go where to stay, what's close by or side trips to take to make the most out of this 4 day visit.

Please see my post regarding --Comfort Inn Prague---fyi nothing has changed since this post. The maangement does not addres emails or are available for phone call both in Prague AND Choice Hotels/ Corporate in US These people are aware of , and probably part of the scam.

We have reservations at the Bellagio in Prague around Thanksgiving (USA). Looks nice, excellent location, and has good reviews. I'll post a report on it when we get back.
