We will be spending Christmas Eve in central Prague and would like to dine at a romantic, moderately priced restaurant. Any recommendations? Also, will we need reservations? If so, how do we make them from the US? Thanks.

Book in advance ( or go early like 18h00, eat early and after dinner enjoy walking the town at night, including Charles Bridge and Christmas markets. )

Above is a good idea because CHristmas Eve is a big deal in Prague (major holiday) and many restaurants will be closed. Most people eat that meal at home with their families, it's like Christmas Day in other places. So your choice will be limited and you must reserve.

If you don't want to do it, ask your hotel to make a reservation. Any hotel should do that for you unless they are really low budget and don't give much customer service. Where are you staying?

Would definitely ask your hotel for recos - they will know which places are open and fit your budget. Also note that in winter restaurants in Prague tend to focus on game for special meals (boar, venison) as well as the usual pork. If you want something specific (turkey?) be sure to find out in advance if they serve it.

Thanks to all for the good advice. We will actually be staying in an apartment near the Paloucek stop. We have asked the owner for some recommendations, but haven't heard back as yet.

oh, that's in Prague 4 and is kind of in the burbs to me. I thought there might be more places open in the center. That isn't a metro stop, you know (it's a bus/tram stop). I guess Vysehrad is the closest metro. There are a lot of modern big business hotels around that metro stop, if I recall.

Like the photos, anyway. And it is open every day, which is a good sign. You can email them on their website, actually, but I wouldn't count on them knowing English. You could try. DO you know Czech? I know a little, it can help in that type of location.

I couldn't find any online reservation service that had restaurants in Prague 4. Good luck. If you are in an apt, you might want to just stay in and cook that night.

this is quite near to your tram stop but not sure if it will be open Christmas eve.Not the most romatic of places but certainly a traditional Czech Hospoda. You could also look at the Corinthian hotel , been a while since I was in there but believe they have refurbished their restaurants .

Not sure if you wish to dine in the city center or near your apartment. Yes, the area you will be staying is not central ( I've been to Vyshrad area many times for walk ), at least for a tourist like me who always stay in Prague 1.
