Prague by December
 

We are going to Prague for the first time this December and we are not sure what to pack to wear for the climate. How cold is it?
Has anyone ever stayed at affordable Hotel Ibis Praha City?
Any suggestions about Christmas markets in Prague and places to visit would be appreciated.

Weather is similar to New York/Boston - will probably be in the 30's during the day - but colder at night. We were there in January and there was quite a bit of snow - not sure how much you'll find in December. Definitely need winter coat, hat, gloves and some sort of reliable boots.

i was there at the beginnin of last december....it was beautiful...we wore early winter clothing (based on east coast of usa standard)...it was pleasant during the day for touring, and colder at nite....

i would take a winter coat/jacket...we wore cords often and my wife wore long johns (silk) for outside touring---maybe a bit of overkill...it snowed when we were in cesky krumlov....we saw no snow in prague....gloves and scarf would be helpful and heavy shoes...

don't know the hotel

We were there for Christmas last year and it was very cold (disclaimer: we live in Malaysia and hadn't been in true winter weather in three years or more). It was around 0C most days. I wore silk long johns and we had winter coats, sweaters, hats, scarves and gloves and some days we were still cold. But happy (we get sick of being hot over here!).

Don't know the hotel. We booked the Red Lion through www.hotelsprague.cz - I compared a LOT of websites and these guys had the best prices/deals.

I wasn't thrilled with the Christmas Market - it was nice to see some Christmas cheer after three Christmases in Muslim Malaysia, but things were overpriced (cheaper in shops), and there wasn't really anything special anyway. We did enjoy the pork sausages and hot drinks, though!

There are so many things to see in Prague but I think the city's charm is just that it is beautiful everywhere you go. Of course there is the castle and other specific sites, but mostly we just walked and walked. It was lovely. Enjoy!

We've been to Prague in Dec and it was cold. I'm from Chgo and still felt it was rather biting. I suspect becasue we spent so much time outdoors walking from place to place.

The Christmas market was delightful especially at night. We got some hot choclate or gluwein and sat on the benches in the square and people watched. It was the only market I know of so can't asnwer your question of 'suggestions about markets'.

The places in this grand place are too numerous to list. I suggest searching a good travel book and find those that sound good to you - architecture; history; musuems; Mozart; galleries; etc.

What is your definition of moderately priced?

Let's say 100 - 150 euros per room (double) with breakfast and taxes.

I was there last March and found it pretty cold and snowy. I live in New York City, but I grew up in upstate New York where winter lasts well into April--that's the weather it reminded me of.
I was glad to have low boots and a hat.

We laughed last March while we were there and checking world-wide temps in the local paper. Both Oslo and Reykjavik were consistently warmer than Prague.
