Prague Beer
 

Can anyone recommend some good places in Prague for beer? Anything like the Munich Hofbrauhaus? What about the real Budweiser, is it available?

There are not really any large beer houses in Prague like in Munich, at least to my knowledge. There are many outdoor areas where you can have a beer (or two). IMO the best is Pilsner Urquel, which was the first beer ever created back in the 13th century. Another one is Budweis (nothing like Budwiser in the US, much better.) Chris, The Pilsner Urquell is indeed one of the world's best beers (have some in the fridge right now!). There are other excellent Czech beers such as Staropramen and the Budvar (Budweiser). <BR> <BR>In Prague, there are many beer halls, like the well known "U Flecku'", and "Pivnice U Svejku", among others. These tend to be very "touristy" and not filled with many locals. We found the "U Medviku'", located on Na Perstyne, just a short stroll from the Narodni Trida metro stop and it is also a pension. This is a traditional Czech beer hall that we happened upon purely by accident and serve strictly the Budvar. Great place, good food and good beer. We ended up drinking with a table full of the locals and had a great time. We knew hardly no Czech and they knew almost no English, but that didn't matter.

just returned from 2 weeks in europe, including 5 days in prague. All of the beer we had was excellent. In a restaurant or cafe, simply say to your waiter, "pivo, pro-seem" (beer, please - spelled phonetically), and they will bring you the best of what they have in-house. The dark beer is fantastic - don't pass it up. Don't expect speedy service anywhere, though, as some of the wait staff can be a bit slow and surly!

The Prague "Hofbräuhaus" is called U-Fleku.
