Prague Area
 

I am going to Prague with a friend, for the first time in June, and I booked a hotel in District 3.
I just want to make sure this is an area we will feel safe walking back to at night, and would appreciate any feedback people have on this area.

We are staying at:
Pension U Hejtmana
Cimburkova 15
130 00 Praha 3
If that helps anyone have a better idea of what part of the district we are in.

OK, so you will be in Zizkov (Prague 3), which is somewhat gentrified, and a popular area for tourists on a budget. Your hotel is right on the tram line, so I suggest taking the #9 tram back & forth to the downtown areas. It is walkable, but the tram is literally right there, so it will be convenient. Get a transportation pass from the hotel, tobacco shop, or at the metro stations. Validate it once, and carry it with you.

Zizkov has lots of restaurants, but many are "local" hangouts, so you might find some Czech waiters who don't speak good English. Not a huge deal, though.

Zizkov is mixed with artsy types, working class, and some Roma (gypsies). Prague is not a violent town, by any means, so your main concern here is theft. Do not leave ANYTHING of value in your room. 2 of my friends had laptops stolen from their hotel rooms in Zizkov last summer. There is a electronic gadgets crime ring that works that area, and the police admit to it. They can only do so much, so I would not even bring things like that to your hotel. Otherwise, all should be fine, if you practice common sense (do not act like a lost tourist, hold a map open while standing alone waiting for public transit, and watch your wallet/etc).

PS - the trams run all night also (night tram schedule is different, but #9 is popular, and runs 24/7, so you will be OK getting home at night)

I stay in that area when I am in Prague. I have been out late in that area and I have never felt unsafe there. There are always a lot of people out walking in that area all times of the day.

I like the restaurant Anubis near your hotel. The waiters speak English.

You can take the tram from Seifertova. I usually take the #9 tram. You are in the middle of 2 tram stops on Seifertova. It will probably be easier to walk down hill to the Husinecka tram stop. There is also a good restaurant at this tram stop called the SKLEP.If you get on at Husinecka the next stop would be Hlavni nadrazi(the main train station that also has metro stop).

You can also walk down hill on Cimburkova to the Tachovske bus stop on Husitska. It is 2 bus stops to the Florence Metro station.

Just a follow-up on the pension and area for anyone interested in staying. I found it to be pleasant accommodations, clean and safe. The man that worked there was very helpful and friendly. It was right off the the street with a main tram line and took less then 5 min to get into the city center. I would definitely stay in the area and at Pension U Hejtmana again!
