Prague and Berlin

I will be visiting Europe for 3 weeks in December. At first I was planning to stay in London for 5 days, Paris for 7 during Christmas, Brussels 1 Bruges 2 and ending my trip in Amsterdam for 5 days coinciding with New Years. Due to the exchange rate with the pound. I decided to re-route my trip and add 2 more days and now Fly into Prague for a couple days with Berlin being my next stop before flying to Paris for 7. That would put me in Prague for 2.5 days and Berlin for 4. Any thought on the Prague/Berlin time allotment. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

It sounds o.k.
Prague is lovely and compact. No great museums, but many beautiful buildings.

Berlin has some of the best museums and galleries in Europe and many historical sights.
It is a big city with excellent public transit.

I would not mind visiting Prague again., been to Berlin 3 times.

For my tastes, that's at least a day short for each city, but we all travel for different reasons and at different paces. I travel pretty hard, and I visited both cities during the long days of summer, so if anything, you might want even more than I'm suggesting.

I'm not sure what I would cut from your itinerary (I've been to all of your proposed destinations except Brussels, and since I haven't been there, I can't comment on it), but it might be worth cutting back on your destination list. Do remember that transportation between cities can eat up large chunks of time. Too, daylight hours will be relatively short while you are there - perhaps opening hours, too - so your options for visiting interesting sites will be more limited than during other seasons.

Hope that helps!

In July last year, we visited Berlin for 5 days and Prague for two and a half, as you are planning. Prague is so enchanting, I would love to have been there for longer, but then, I like going back to the same place at different times of day, to see the different light. There was so much to see there, that we didn't have time for any of the many concerts, or museums. As for Berlin, going back again soon! Apply for a ticket to see the Parliament - it was interesting, and you can miss the long queue to walk up the spiral inside the glass dome afterwards, with a free audioguide as well.

By the way, we found it easy and very cheap to get into town from the airport by public transport - a bus takes you direct to the underground. We changed money at the airport - an unfriendly but efficient exchange.

danon, I think what you might mean is that there aren't many art museums with artists that are easily recognizable. But that's not entirely true either.

There's the Mucha Museum and it's nice to know that the man had something to say with his art. He wasn't just about selling Job rolling papers.

The National Gallery may not have huge names either but the art is certainly worthy of a visit. One of the things that makes Prague a charming city is that the people seem to be well schooled in art, the attention to detail in some of the cafes. I went the first time to Prague in the early 90's and the art that was in the cafes, galleries or even a piece that was in the apt we rented. Wow.

I visited Mucha Museum and almost. everything I could find in Prague - was there for 5 days.

There are good artists and local museums in many cities. I am sure they are worth a
visit. That does not make them great....
