Prague Advice Needed
We'll be arriving at our Prague hotel (Angelo by Vienna House) about 4:30 p.m. on a Friday evening. I'm expecting we'll be very tired from flight but will need to walk, find supper, get sunshine, etc. before turning in. Any advice about this neighborhood, which is very near the Andel metro stop? I've looked at google maps and there's a shopping mall (Novy Smichov) very close-by but that isn't very appealing. Any recommendations for casual restaurants, a park or good neighborhood strolls? I see a park (Mrazovka) as being close on the map.
Hotel's info says 15-20 minute walk to Charles Bridge . . . any feel for how congested/busy the streets are in this area? Also, we'll be in Prague for 2 more days and plan to spend one in the Castle area, another in the Jewish Quarter. We like museums, history, art and gardens. Any suggestions on what we should see in Prague appreciated, also any advice for quick lunches while in the Old Town. Thank you! |
If your hotel says it's a 15 or 20 minute walk to Charles Bridge, I think you will find it an easy walk even after a long flight - a nice way clear your head and get on to the local time. Plenty of local restaurants and places to stop in for a beer, if you are so inclined. There are also restaurants galore in the old town center, which is in close proximity to the bridge.
For your actual touring dates, I highly recommend the Lobkowicz Palace - it is just at the base of the castle (start from the top for the best views from the castle) - and can be overlooked as you exit the castle proper. There is a separate entrance fee - it is so well worth it. The audio guide is narrated by a family member, and the history, as well as the artifacts and art inside are just amazing. House of Lobkowicz We took the bus up to the castle, and along the way there is a stop that lets you off at the Castle Gardens (on your left) - beautiful and peaceful gardens, along with the royal summer house. The gardens are a nice respite from the crowds of tourists. https://www.prague.eu/en/object/plac...razskeho-hradu Prague is one of my favorite cities in the world - I know you will have a wonderful time! |

it is a great area ,the mall you talk about is huge and faily new. there are numerous places to eat and drink in the area and here are a few of my favourites.
https://www.facebook.com/beertime.pub/ new place but does pretty decent food, nothing fancy and they have a superb selection of beer, nice courtyard area to sit in,was there twice last month. Radegastovna Perón Smíchov love this place , great food and good beer only place in Prague with tank Radegast beer, often meet a friend that works in the Andel area for lunch there, again nice little courtyard area to sit in if the weather is nice. Kozlovna Lidická part of the Kozlovna chain and very good, again a nice little outdoor area , but food and beer in there is very good though service can be patchy. Potrefená husa - And?l part of the Staropramen brewery chain of restaurants, decent food and their beer selection from the nearby brewery is good. they also have a place at the brewery about 300 yards down the street. so that is a few that i can personally recommend and that I have been into within the last year and some within the last month. Andel is a great area to stay in ,very vibrant and busy without the overwhelming amount of tourists that other areas suffer from. Great transport links to all parts of the city and yes Charles bridge 15-20 minutes walk but it will take longer as you enjoy all the things you see on the way.If you walk towards the river there are pleasant enough walks along that area ,cross over to the other side the area is called Naplavka and there are a few bars and restaurants there or on boats and barges in the summertime to enjoy a beer or bite to eat, great saturday market there too. for quick lunches just pop into any pub that has a denni menu and pick something off that (usually in czech only) ,usually served within a few minutes, cheap and filling. |
