I plan to go to Prague with my friends by car in May.

Where are you coming from? Cars are useless once in Prague -if have your own car OK but if renting one think more about trains or buses to get there - great train info - www.seat61.com; BETS-European Rail Experts and www.ricksteves.com.

Are you going elsewhere or just Prague

We have own car.

And we are going to Frankfurt then and Amsterdam. Then Dresden and back in Krakow ( we live there). But we are students from Ukraine :)
