Prague - 1 1/2 days - what to see and do?
 

Plan to train to Prague and will have 1 1/2 days there. What do you suggest we see and do in that short period of time? Could also use some hotel suggestions around the 100-150 USD amount.

i had 1.5 days in prague and found it enough to see quite a bit of the city. the castle area is a great starter, the charles bridge, old town square, and the jewish cemetery. i liked the old town square area and stayed at a Best Western for around $125 for the night. the city is fairly safe all around.

No disrespect intended whatsoever, but why are you planning to go to Prague, if you don't know what things there are, to do and see there?

How do you feel about guided walking tour? It can be a great way to hit the highlights. I've got names of private guides I've used, or else the Tourist Information office has guides as well.

I would disagree with Rex about the Mucha Museum, I've been there twice because I admire his art, but I wouldn't put it at the top of priorities for such a short visit.

I'd say
half day: Prague Castle for a couple of hours, see especially St Vitus Cathedral and St George's, on your way back, browse around Mala Strana, stop into St Nicholas church of Mala Strana for a gorgeous Baroque interior, cross the Charles Bridge again back into Old Town.

Full day:
Take a walking tour of the highlights of Old Town, it may also include some parts of Josefov, the old Jewish section. For the second half of that day, see if you can get an English-language tour of Municipal House, it will give you a broad exposure to the best of Prague's decorative arts. These tours have to be reserved in advance. For the rest of that day, have a beer at a cafe in Old Town Square, visit some churches, do some shopping, hear a concert, walk over to Wenceslas Square for the tackier side of Prague.
