Prado Museum - does free hours = long ques?
We understand the Prado is free entrance 6 - 8 every evening but wondering if the ques are so long that it isn't worth it? If so, what is the best time to avoid crowds?
Much thanks |
Hi; Also free admission on Sundays from 5-8pm. We had no problem getting into the museum for 'free'. Richard

Not aware there is any such word as ques. Perhaps you mean queues (lines)? And agree we went one evening and it wasn't madly mobbed - but that was in May.

I've only been once during the "free hours" and there was quite a line outside, which moved slowly because of the security screening.
If you go at that time, our experience was that only the central front door was open for admission, yet you had to go to the entrance on the left side facing the museum (north?) to pick up your free entry ticket and then wait in line to use your ticket to go in the central front doors. Several groups of foreign tourists just hopped in the line and were quite upset to find out when they got to the front that they had to go over and pick up their free tickets and then come back and get in line. |
Thanks, lreynold 1, for this helpful information. No need for the spelling lesson, nytraveler. Even my undergraduate degree in English can't prevent me from missing a key or two.
