Prado-200 Years old

Below is an article from the NY Times about the 200th anniversary of the Prado. What is ironic is that two of the worst dictators in Spanish history, Ferdinand VII and Franco, were instrumental in making it into one of the world's great museums.

I was there in November and they were gearing up. The anniversary exhibition is very interesting - showing important acquisitions over the past 200 years. Also, keep updated re the opening hours as they are adding additional 'free' days. However, it does get very busy on free days.

It is in the top five general collection museums in the world, possibly third after the Louvre and the Met in NY.
